Going to be on Eriskay for a week soon, any tracks anywhere there or South Uist worth taking the MTB for or just take the CX and razz about some back roads?

Have you looked at a map of Eriskay? http://streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=79397& ... &A=Y&Z=120 It's not very big! Most fun to be had riding on the beaches on the west coast of South Uist.

The hardest bit would probably be the machair to get to the beaches which can be quite soft sand where the access tracks go through. The beaches are quite firm from memory but then they are so bloody long they could vary a lot.

There's a track running along the S.Uist machair, roughly parallel to the beach/tarmac road. I've cycled much of it on 28mm touring tyres.

Pick it up at Dalabrog and see how far north you can get. There's a good cafe at Kildonan.

There's little other off-road available, mostly a few peat roads going to a moor and back.

While you're there, ride out past Loch Druidibeag to the East coast of S. Uist. It's quite different from the rest of the island. There is a track leading to a remote bothy. I'm not sure how rideable it would be, though it certainly starts off OK.
