I was kindly given some avid BB7s for my drop bar conversion and they were great but this winter seems to have destroyed them with the alloy adjusters corroding and seizing solid. The inner torque screw just disintegrated on me.

I'm going get some more come payday or possibly trp spyres instead, but what to do to prevent a recurrence?

The bike is washed down after rides, moving parts oiled and stored in an unheated shed, but obviously I'm not going to strip, grease and dry calipers after each ride. To be honest I don't think I could do anything to 'lube' the adjusters inner or out. The actual braking was still working.

Is it just age l, wear and tear or am I missing something? :cry:

I've removed the adjusters and put coppaslip on the threads. So far so good.

Probably neglect by the previous owner... I pretty much did nothing other than change the pads when they wore out. Sorry...

haha! Surely not Gareth :???: No need to be sorry! I very much appreciate your help to get me set up drop bar stylie. :-bd

Just wasn't sure if there was something I could/should have done and should do with new ones I get to avoid a repeat.

First pair I had on the Mukluk and did lots of beach riding with no maintenance other than washing. When I eventually took them apart they were fine. Ones that have been used in road salt do seem to have suffered more. Take them apart, copper slip the pad adjusters and moly grease on the ball bearing and its track.

Haven't got as far as to totally dismantle as I was worried things might fling and spring on me. Just removed them, removed the pads and tried to move and loosen bits to no avail.

Might give it ago tomorrow night as I guess I have nothing to loose.. Any tips? And can you buy spares like the torq screws/bolts?

Hmmm... See I can get spare internal and externals for £35 per caliper on amazon. At that I might as well get new...

Id just look for some cheap TRP Spyres instead. Miles better calliper (once stock pads are replaced).

OK, I've found the service manual so I'll have a look tonight. Maybe I can atleast get one serviceable one from the two and just buy one new or the parts for one.

Otherwise I think it will be the spyres. :-bd
