If its dry you might be ok without the bivi as in the cold you'll only get condensation on the inside of the bivi. Sil tarps ain't that big so if its looking rainy it might be as worth taking the bivi for that bit of extra protection.

Depends on your sleeping bag. Damp synthetic uncomfortable night, damp down bag miserable night.

Unless your sleeping bag has a decent water resistant outer, or it was a summer one nighter, I wouldn't consider going out without a bivvy bag under a Siltarp.

Even keeping my sleeping bag on my full length mat and off the wet ground is a mission!

To echo what's above ... I'll sometimes use a sleeping bag without a bivvy under a tarp but I wouldn't do it with a siltarp 1, it's just too small.

One bit of kit which makes it more possible is a bathtub groundsheet ... trouble is they usually weigh more than a bivvy bag, ex MOD bivvy bag could be an exception here though ;)

I thought about it for a while, but didnt see the point as the inner is pretty light in the parts list for the laser so I just used both.

Probably dosnt help though

Lasers do feel a LOT roomier without the inner.
