I'm not doing this year's ride (prior engagement on Saturday night) but would be interested in looking at the route if you don't mind Stu. No problems if not.
Better weight than wisdom, a traveller cannot carry
For the record, I would just like to say that the route does actually include some really nice bits, some that no one will have ridden before ... just make sure you watch out for them. Right, I'm off to the post office with a present for Dave.
I've never ridden any of it, or even in Wales. I don't know if that's an an advantage or a disadvantage, but I'm sure it will all be lovely
I have noticed that in my mapping programme it shows the total ascent for the route as 6289m, which is a touch more than the 5341m on the profile in the speculation thread I'm going to put that to the back of my mind and assume that the lower figure is right and it's just a mapping software glitch.
(I forget, is the Ponterwyd petrol station 24 hour?)
No.
Sorry Stu, random question - do Dave and Jenny Dee still own the garage at Ponterwyd? (Going back a while I'm afraid!)
We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.

Sean - you're not on your own. Me and my friend will be travelling up from sunny Hampshire/Wiltshire on Friday with very little clue. First look of the route it looks like I'm gonna need a water filter and a load of food. And possibly crampons and some climbing rope.
What you riding? I'll look out for you at the start or will you be in the Star on Friday? I'll be on an orange /red Pinnacle with my mate who rides a blue and white Giant.

I'll be on an orange Genesis Latitude, fully rigid singlespeed, an ideal choice looking at the route I'm not at the Star Friday as I'm staying elsewhere and I wouldn't have the discipline not to drink more than is wise before a ride like this I'll keep an eye out for you at the start, it shouldn't be too hard as yours will be one of the few accents I'll understand

I've decided not to 'plan' my food stops this year, it always falls over anyway. Looks like a water filter/chlorine tabs is a necessity though, unless I can just wring out my jersey into a bottle? I do plan on sitting down at 200km and having a strop though.
top job stu, I love that cheeky down to the lake and if you ride the rocky section fast u can clear it! But don't hesitate on it or u may end up in the ferns :)
