Tenerife and flying with bikes

Thinking of going to tenerife for a few days, 3 full days riding.

The plan would be to ride right out of the airport and head to the off road as soon as possible, bivi out each night and ride as much as possible.

Does anybody know anything about:
a, The riding, any pointers appreciated
b, Luggage storage for a bike bag at the airport (south I think)
c, alternatively flying with a non bagged bike (carbon hardtail)
d, Flying whilst wearing spd shoes, wondered if the security might be funny about metal in shoes :?

a - Never done Tenerife only Lanzarote where I hired the bike localy and ended up in hospital after getting bitten by a dog at the end of the last ride just as I was returning the bike :?

b - Dunno about Tenerife but we've stashed/buried bike bags near the airport before and retrieved them on the return. I can reccomend a great advertising billboard to tuck it behind near Bilbao airport if that's any help :D

c - I wouldn't risk flying with an unbagged bike (especially carbon) these days. I've done it in the past but these days I've seen people refused their bikes at the baggage check-in 'cos they were unwrapped or just wrapped in a bit of polythene. Worth checking with the specific airline though.

d - Flown in SPDs and it's never been a problem at check-in. Do remember not to carry anything in your hand luggage that might be confiscated by security. I lost my lightweight tent pegs at Bristol airport that way :( I did managed to borrow some at the campsite in Chamonix luckily.

I am told that you should not stray into the national park on your bike as they have very hefty fines if your caught but it's worth checking if this is true or not.

A padded bike bag that will roll up to carry on my back seems to be the order of the day.

Hmm, straying into national parks, that would suggest i'd have a map and know where i was going :D

Groundeffect do a good bag that packs up small when empty. Just fabric though so you'd have to improvise padding.
