Square taper crank set

Post by nobby »

Another question.
Any recommendations on a crank set to fit a square taper bb axle, please? I'm looking for reasonable, but not best, quality and if anybody has a second hand item that they would like to sell then I'd be interested.

The only thing I have to hand is a cheap Stronglight where the chainring is an integral part of the crank (sort of thing that is used on Bromptons) and it doesn't look very strong.

I will be running a single 38T chain wheel.
Cheers

Middleburn

try www.rjcx-treme.co.uk for best value on Middleburn stuff.

Also have a look at their Uno ring to go with the RS7/8 crank.

Thanks for that. I clicked the wrong one at first and came up with a heart attack price of £225.
Is £125 for the RS7 about the norm for cranksets nowadays? :o If so, I'm definitely going to be going the previously loved route!

Last pair of cranks you'll buy, IMO :)

Middleburn stuff is lovely but it does come at a price. The LX cranks in the top link would be a very good bet or failing that the FSA ones in the bottom link. I've used both before without problem ... the LX cranks are actually a bit of a bargain.

Note 170mm arms though - OK if you've got short legs ;)

A quick google reveals Alivio square-tapers are under £30 and come with a 38T ring. ;)

Aren't they riveted rather than changeable rings though?

I've got a spa cycles own brand one. It was only 20quid and they claim that is made by sugino. It seems fine so far.

Thanks for all the help.

I finally decided to order the LX set from CRC. The Spa Sugino type cranks looked good until you add in chain bolts and a ring.
