MTB Hall of Fame.
I see that Steve Peat, Tym Manley and Steve Behr have being nominated for the MTB Hall of Fame. All deserving IMO but I wondered who you'd nominate? The HoF seems to be a little US-centric, so it'd be nice to see more people from more countries in there.

Re: MTB Hall of Fame.
I misread that as "Hall of Flame" and thought it was somewhere that the rad boys and girls did some tricks
*
Of the three you mention, I've only heard of Steve Peat so "Fame" might be pushing it a bit.**
* You might (correctly) surmise that I'm a bit cynical about things like this.
** You might (correctly) surmise that I don't keep up to date with "celebrities"

Aside from Mr Peat, the candidates are in no way celebs or current names within mountain bike circles Bob.I don't keep up to date with "celebrities"
Very kind but I think your bunny hopping skills would put you in line way before me.I can take a subtle hint....

I'm not sure what the point of a Hall of Fame is, genuinely curious?
I met Gary Fisher in Otley once. He was bonkers, in a nice way. Do you have to be bonkers?

Re: MTB Hall of Fame.
Still not heard of them. A quick search does give me some info on that score. Without looking at the relevant pages of a magazine I wouldn't be able to name anyone associated with any of the current biking magazines (possible exception of Mr May). Put this down to complete disinterest on my part.Bearbonesnorm wrote:Aside from Mr Peat, the candidates are in no way celebs or current names within mountain bike circles Bob.I don't keep up to date with "celebrities"

And mine Bob - however, this pair were instrumental in helping shape / develop the UK mountain bike scene for better or worse.Put this down to complete disinterest on my part.
To enter the hall of fame? - No. To go to Otley of your own free will? - Probably.Do you have to be bonkers?

Martyn Ashton.
Not sure if Danny MacAskill would count.

Re: MTB Hall of Fame.
I'd second Martyn Ashton.
Agree with Peaty and Steve Behr.
Could also add in Geoff Apps.

Re: MTB Hall of Fame.
Tim Gould and Deb Murrel - world class racers from the early days??
Hans Rey
Nicholas Vouillez - won lots of DH world cups and champs but didn't drink heavily and do massive jumps so never got the rep of Shaun Palmer or Peaty

Re: MTB Hall of Fame.
I just th9nk that it must be possible to come up with the names of some folk that have influenced mountain biking away from racing which, at the end of the day, represents a tiny proportion of the folk that ride. Geoff Apps for example.
Re: MTB Hall of Fame.
I'd like to nominate Nicolas and Richard Crane. Not for their mountain bike prowess, but for riding totally unsuitable bikes on a pointless journey. They were two of the people who inspired me to get get out and explore.

Their range of Aldi clothing is quite good!Nicolas and Richard Crane
Re: MTB Hall of Fame.
Gotta be martyn ashton! Genuinely the nicest man in the sport, inspiring and like all true british he deals with his condition with humour and sarcasm
He makes regular trips to Margam Country Park which is just down the road from me, never lucky enough to be there on the same day though.
And if there was ever a bike packer entry i vote Lael Wilcox, absurdly good at extreme long distance stuff and gets through without fancy kit just pure grit! Though in interviews she does come across as proper nuts

Re: MTB Hall of Fame.
All without fancy kit, are you sure?

That can't be a cheap bike! Do you mean the lack of Lycra shorts?
She's great though, really admire her.
Good call on the Cranes cousins, they were/are just nuts (and now Nic presents TV with an umbrella, that's very cool
)
I did contact bikepacking.com for them to do an interview with Stu but guessing nothing came off that
