Yeti Passion one ... Silly light sleeping bag.

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

I've just spotted that the Yeti Passion one sleeping bag only weighs 265g in Med and just over 300g in a large size  and they state a minimum comfort rating of 12 degrees.

With a rating of 12-15 degrees I'm wondering if a bag this light is really of much use in the UK aside from a couple of weeks each year. Obviously you can beef it up by adding a jacket, etc but I don't imagine there'll be much extra room inside.

PHD list the Minum at 345g with a rating of 8 degrees, it's also 100 quid cheaper ...* would anyone consider the weight saving of the Yeti to be worth £100 over the PHD?

* Not that I'm thinking of buying one before anyone asks.

In short, no I wouldn't spend that much on a bag that only had 100g of down in it. I had to think very careful before buying the PHD bag, which has more use over a greater proportion of the year. That makes it better value and worth the extra weight, imo.

Packsize doesn't look any better than the PHD. Holding my Minim Ultra up to the light it is scary how little 900 fill down is needed for it's warmth. I can't see the point in the £££ for how little warmth it offers tbh.

You could make a 100g sleeping bag that copes with 18'c if you didn't put any down in it and it would cost peanuts!

Not specifically, no. However, given my previous track record on such matters, I realise it could be construed that way ;)
