What's your iron horse of choice for the wrt?
Fatbike, mountain bike or cx/gravel bike?

I'm 90% self convinced my fatty is my iron horse of choice. I've tried to plan a route mainly on forest fire roads with a bit of single track and a few country lanes. Thanks norm for route offer but having spent 4 days in Dartmoor at the end of December bikepacking on the fatty I'm quite looking forward to an easy weekend in Wales

Are you sure? I know some lovely sections of bog ideally suited to 4" or bigger tyres

Pinnacle Ramin 3 plus, bit concerned about pedaling 3 inch rubber on tarmac climbs :( .. gonna be a slog !

2.8" Super Moto X might be worth a look. Not a light tyre but looks like it should roll well.

2.4" X-Kings would also be worth considering.

reckon the moto x will be ok on the gravel stuff stu, like around claewen res etc ?

I'd have thought they'd be fine on anything other than wet grass / mud.

On those steep mid Wales Tarmac climbs it's not the rubber that's the limiting factor.

26-inch full-bounce MTB. Over 20 years old, so not particularly light, but still a lovely bike, even if it looks a bit dated

2.35 Hans Dampf on the front and 2.10 Nobby Nic on the rear — that's as big as the frame and suspension fork allow. I've no idea if these are good tyres, but I'm hoping they'll be good enough.

Probably 14kg just for the bike, plus 7-8kg of stuff — this will be my first, so I can't even attempt a bit of "TLS". I'll just have to pedal harder ...

I was hoping to go rigid b+ having ordered a Shand in Feb. Unfortunately its not going to be ready in time so it's stardard 29er hardtail for me. 2.3"

Rather you than me. You may struggle on some parts of my route.

Me n the other half will be on 29ers with normal MTB tyres. I run a steel Sturdy frame with 2.3s - Specialized Slaughter on the back and a Specialized Control tyre on the front.



The other half will be running his Specialized Stumpjumper Evo hardtail with 2.0 Bontragner mud tyres.

Cos that's what we have, and that'll do the job.
