Re: New 29er frame suggestions
They just replied saying two weeks for new batch of Solaris' but no other info about any change of spec etc... so assuming they're standard.

Re: New 29er frame suggestions
And yes, a Swift would work too!
I'd not considered Singular which is odd considering how much I love my Rooster.
So much to consider.....

Re: New 29er frame suggestions
Gairy, I thnk you should have perhaps entitled this thread - 'I'm buying a new Solaris'

May the bridges you burn light your way
Re: New 29er frame suggestions
You may want to have a look at the new Kona Unit too...
How does the rear feel of Solaris vs. Sherpa? Any difference in comfort to be noted?metalheart wrote:Well, I have both a Solaris (mkI) and a Sherpa (new gen).
My Solaris is a medium and feels a bit short for long days (saddle position also makes front end light when climbing on the steep). Bottle mount is bang middle of down tube so interferes with a (non full) frame bag. It's built up 29er/100mm Reba's. It's my bikepacking bike.
Sherpa is 3" B+. Straight pin, so further forward and despite being a large it feels a little short, no light front though. Bottle cage better position. It 'feels' more aggressive than the Cotic. Not sure that's a requirement for b/p though....

Ragley big wig. Not got a huge triangle, but a great mile muncher, comfortable, springy fun ride, climbs ok, desends like few other hard tails. Cheap second hand.

Re: New 29er frame suggestions
2.25" Ardents/Arch EX vs 3" Trail Boss/Scraper is apples and oranges so I can't honestly give a meaningful response I'm afraid (never ridden the Sherpa on 29s). 3" more comfort than 2.25" thoughHow does the rear feel of Solaris vs. Sherpa? Any difference in comfort to be noted?

Should be in a position to be able to advise on this in two - three weeks time....How does the rear feel of Solaris vs. Sherpa? Any difference in comfort to be noted?

Re: New 29er frame suggestions
New Sherpa on its way then
Looks like the next batch of Solaris' (Solarii) will be bolt thru or even boost rear axle for those interested.

Are you replacing your Cotic? Or adding to the fleet?

Re: New 29er frame suggestions
This will be my main bikepacking bike, keep the mk1 for extreme conditions and winter duties...

Re: New 29er frame suggestions
Cor blimey, my Mk1 now feels out of date, even though it's only a couple of years old
Mk2, then the Max
Will stick with what I have, despite the fact that an XL would be nice, as I'd then have to get new wheels

Re: New 29er frame suggestions
I know how you feel Ben, I've a set of Alpkit plus wheels for mine as well as the standard 29er hoops. Mind you, the Mk1 is still a cracking bike.

Re: New 29er frame suggestions
Well, I wasn't exactly overjoyed when I found out it was boost (I'd even bought 12x142 converters for my Evo2's in anticipation) and my Sherpa rear is also 142 so neither existing wheel set will work...
I've had a while to get used to the idea and the 35mm rims/2.8" rear tyre will reduce the weight of scrapers and 3" (other than I've only gone tough compound tyres....).
Guess I've just got big windows....

Boost???
Arse!
That's the Solaris out of the picture (unless I find a mk2 used) for me.

YeahIs the Sherpa staying too?

Too 'short' for all day b/packing I'd reckon.

Re: New 29er frame suggestions
Well my new 'dilemma' about keeping both the KM OPS and mk1 Solaris (oh and a fatbike) seems less stressful now. Thank youmetalheart wrote:YeahIs the Sherpa staying too?![]()
