Let's talk about long johns...

Post by pedalhead »

I've generally tended to go with multi-use leg warmers & spare shorts for sleeping duties, but sometimes a nice cosy pair of long johns would fit the bill I reckon. Any recommendations for lightweight but effective long johns please? I think the Helly Hansen ones seem to be popular, though I've never tried them. Cheers!

I've got some Marmot 3/4 fleece things that are dead warm and only 138g, iirc.

Are they like these ones? (although these are full length). Do you know what size yours are? I reckon I'd probably be similar.

Think mine are medium. They're these ones: http://marmot.com/products/power_stretc ... 16,222,131

Edit: full length version here: http://marmot.com/products/power_stretc ... 16,222,131
170g quoted weight suggests that 138g for my 3/4's might be about right (going from memory).

I've got either cheapy Trekmates dryflo ones or one of the many variants on Polartec Powerstretch fleece, like the Marmot ones. Reed Chillcheater do their Transpire fleece which is fundamentally the same, andI've got some cheap North Ridge ones that are identical.

I have a pair of thin merino wool leggings made by orca, haven't weighed them but they are very light, comfy to sleep in and good for an extra layer when it's nippy

Merino every time - light, warm (also when wet) & don't get that G.awful reek that synthetics do after being in them for just a few hours. Finisterre good but pricey. Aldi good and not..

Well I received my cheapo thermal leggings from Sportsdirect this morning & they're spot on. Nothing fancy, but fairly light & packable and they feel decently warm, and of course extremely cheap!
