Pick 'n mix carbon pole.
Just finished this for Mr Climber and thought others might like the idea (or you might not but hey sharing is caring). A selection of short pole sections that can be added / removed to suit your shelter / conditions. Total weight's 125g inc' stuff sack, so not bad for what is potentially two poles.

Re: Pick 'n mix carbon pole.
What's the length (total and effective) of each section and how much flexibility does each joint add to the complete pole when compared to say a 3 section pole? I'm guessing at around/just over 11g per section?

Each section is 150mm without spigot, so the longest single pole you could produce would be 135cm. Obviously, that leaves a top and bottom section left over.

I'm in. Perfect for sticking the poles in seat pack. Where do I sign?

Also interested to know how much flexibility it adds to the overall pole
How big a pole could you make before it gets too wobbly?

You'll get very little wobble as the poles are under compression when in use. Also interested to know how much flexibility it adds to the overall pole

Works well - I've a similar setup for my tarp and it lets me adjust as I feel like on the day. Shorter pole sections would be nice though,

Did I miss the price somewhere?

No, I haven't said yet ... this one was a 'one off' for Mr Climber, so I now need to work out what they actually cost rather than I random figure I gave JohnDid I miss the price somewhere?

Re: Pick 'n mix carbon pole.
Registering some interest in these after the weekend.
I need (would like?) a set that would fit in a front dry bag between the hoods on a drop bar bike, so maybe 250mm overall (200 mm rise from each section?), with a bit of space each end.
The BB alloy pole set that I have are too long to fit here.
Two tops, two feet, four intermediate pieces that I can assemble as I need them? Does that sound practical?

There appears to be quite a bit of interest in these so I'll work out the finer details this week and report back.

... and finally
http://www.bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk/s ... n-pole-set
This will allow you to make a single pole from 300mm long up to 1490mm in increments of 150mm. Obviously you can also make a pair of poles with it too in many different lengths.
