Sunday Night, Woods, West Yorkshire

Post by Cheeky Monkey »

Barely a trip or an adventure but at least a night out.

Late start after BBQ at mate's house and getting the kids to bed. Brief tootle up the road to the nearby woods (note to self - add more air to the tyres when it's fully loaded ).

Hung the hammock, had a brew, touch of medicinal booze and fitful sleep. Just couldn't get the damn hammock sorted with an uncomfortable ridge under my legs and just "not-feeling-quite-right". Still it was first night in the Woodman X from UKhammocks, no doubt just needs a bit more practice.

Happy to report the TQ and UQ were toasty.

Wildcat Tiger sling and bar harness worked great. Alpkit's new "flo" colour for their dry bags is certainly fluro' on the front.

Up with the dawn chorus and a bit longer spin home. Sadly the french bakery was closed for the Bank Hol so I couldn't return bearing gifts. Hey ho.

Cheeky, nice work, where did you pitch?
Thinking about a night out on the Chevin at some point, will have to get my arse in great and actually get it done this autumn!

Somewhere about here:

Spot's nothing special and there's a bit of standing water / bog in the bottom which would probably make it colder. Was just somewhere I know and was easiest thing to head to a "known" place after dark on a Saturday night.

If I was doing it again I'd probably go over Yorkgate way or Beacon Hill. Potential for some nice views in the morning. Shame the Royalty has shut up as it was a convenient spot for a beer.

Definitely a "well within civilisation" type of spot but I wanted quick and easy. Hey ho 8-)

SHout if you're going and out if you fancy company. Time and opportunity are a bit limited but it might all work out.
