PHD Sleeping Bag Sizing...
Thinking about treating myself to a PHD Sleeping Bag but i'm unsure about sizing.
I'm right on the recommended limit of a standard bag- 6ft & 42" chest.
Not really expecting to be wearing a down jacket or anything else as bulky whilst in it, but maybe having the room for the option would be nice & debating whether to select the 'wide' option..
What are peoples experience with their sizing?
Thanks in advance..

No direct experience of phd sizing but remember a 'roomy' bag won't be as warm as a snug one

May the bridges you burn light your way

Jase, sounds a bit snug for you.
Where would you fit your midnight snacks?? Maybe they would do a special order and install a 'pizza pocket'????

Re: PHD Sleeping Bag Sizing...
I'm 5'11" tall and 42" chest and am fine with the standard sizing. It's cosy but not tight, I certainly don't have to lie there with my arms by my side all night but equally I couldn't have my arms akimbo. On the other hand I find the lower part of the bag narrow so I'd like less taper.

get Scotty to make you a 'SuperQuilt'

Re: PHD Sleeping Bag Sizing...
I'm 6'4" with a 42" chest and find a regular width, long bag is fine. Hope that helps

Re: PHD Sleeping Bag Sizing...
I am not a dissimilar size to you.
The neck is very tight and without the zip it can be a struggle.
Go a size up i reckon!

I'm only 5'7" and 38" chest I think. I have a none zip PHD minim bag and I would say go a size up from standard in terms of width.
I think if you wanted to put a jacket or insulated trousers on when in a standard bag it might feel a little tight.

Re: PHD Sleeping Bag Sizing...
I had the PHD Minim ultra with a zip, and now have the racer down without any zip. They're in standard size, and fine for me - fine for people a bit bigger than me too. You know what size I am.

I've ended up with sleeping bag ordering anxiety
Zip, you're a proper racer with a racers build. Some of us are carrying a bit more timber!

Re: PHD Sleeping Bag Sizing...
I'm not exactly a racing snake myself! 42" chest, 5'11" tall. My PHD bag is a standard which according to their sizing chart (see below) puts me at the top end of the standard width. The bag doesn't feel too narrow to me but I've used close fitting sleeping bags for many years.
Length Height
Short 170cm and below (5' 7" and below)
Standard 172-186cm (5' 8" - 6' 1")
Long 187-203cm (6' 2" - 6' 8")
Extra Long 204-216cm (6' 9" - 7' 1")
Width Chest
Slim 78-92cm (31" - 36")
Standard 93-107cm (37" - 42")
Wide 108-125cm (43" - 49")
Extra Wide 126-142cm (50" - 56")

Re: PHD Sleeping Bag Sizing...
Yeh, seen that Bob. Thanks anyway..
It's more the width that i'm concerned about, but with Stu's advice ringing in my ears I think i'm going to take a punt on a standard bag.
I've missed the cut-off for a pre Christmas delivery now though
