Well, I'm now in Burger King in Oswestry eating donkey bollocks and chips on my way home.
It turns out that finishing a string of night shifts a few days before a big ride is unhelpful. Bailed about 45 km in after pushing up too much stuff that I know I could ride.
Gutted as the conditions were great, minimal wind and looking like no rain
Good luck to those still out there.
i pulled at 45km too. Many reasons, mostly not very interesting. Rode most of the way to Aberystwyth on the road to meet mates for bacon. And to then wear friends clothes as I'd left all mine with Stu. Ladies trackies are comfortable.
Can I say to be in such company as a quitter I feel quite comforted. I mistakenly missed out the forest in favour of the dam road back from 'Lanny'. I knew road back wasn't that easy too!
Anyway. 25 clicks short but I was at a point of ruining the weekend for the sake of it. The riders returning in 15 hours.....Jeez H. Incredible effort.

You do it simply so you can 'mop up' all the remaining bacon butties ... actually, seeing you at the end cheered me right up

I took the same route back after losing my batteries on route and not knowing if I had enough electricity for the rest of the ride for GPS and lights - although in honesty I was very tired by that point so probably worked out right for me....and I don't really mind missing out on a badge, Im pleased with what I did and enjoyed a lot of the route, although I'd like to go back and ride some of it again without a time pressure.
And.....whilst it was an easier route back it definitely wasn't easy.
Slippery slope Greg will be in a dress for it next year
I was by the bridge in Llanidloes getting stones out of my shoes around 10pm on Saturday night when a bearded bloke walked past dressed as David Walliams' "I'm a Lady!" character from Little Britain. OK. I thought, Mid Wales is as Mid Wales does.
