Re: Anyone ridden the Reiver Raid route? Any good?
I stay in Gala and have done it a couple of times. Yeah it's definitely tame and a bit convoluted with doubling back on itself. But also shows me some great wee spots to ride without my head just saying "tweed valley" or similar. I'd say it's worth a ride just to find some of the great wee...

Re: If you go down in the woods today....
I've been on a couple of yoga + trail running holidays around there. One of the locals told me that on certain hills you could see "suspicious looking spots" in the forest
. From discussion it sounded like a pretty open secret among the residents.

Wow, love the ingenuity on the big bucket and the duct tape plan! That's some proper Macgyver stuff.
Going to hit up one of the local craft shops to see what they have in store before I try either of those out though.
Cheers!

Cheers Javatime,
How did you find that harness in terms of rigidness and wear and tear? I was thinking about trying that but was a little worried that it would bend far too much and then wear through pretty quickly.

Bendable plastic for making a harness
Hi guys So I recently (ie today, a few minutes ago) came across this https://bikepacking.com/gear/wayward-riders-louise-dropper-post-harness-review/ Its a really great, simple design. So I went to look to purchase one. Problem number 1 - made and sold in New Zealand, had a look around and could find...

Re: Rigid carbon forks
I'm on a kenisis maxlight.
Was a bit worried it might be a bit harsh, what with it being marketed as a race-y fork. Shouldn't have worried, its really quite comfy.

Re: Thru Axel not playing nice
Thanks for making me feel really manly there guys! Had a moment where it was touch and go but I'm still alive! Had a ride this morn and it was grand, I think the drop outs were maybe slightly out of line which could have meant it was moving about a touch. Gonna point out, was tightening it with a ti...

Re: Thru Axel not playing nice
Just gave it a shot with the torque wrench. Looks like the calibration in my arm is a little low, 12nm feels hella tight!

That's quite a bit of torque! Cool, I'll find how that feels on a torque wrench. :)

Re: Thru Axel not playing nice
Its not got a torque figure on it. And I'm pretty sure its steel holding it. It came with the frame.
I guess I'm just so used to the idea of not over tightening anything on a bike so probably being a bit wussy with it

Thru Axel not playing nice
I've just built up a really great sonder broken road. Rides really well and I'm a big fan. However, on today's ride I had the through Axel on the rear come loose a couple of times, which I found pretty scary. Its the style of Axel which has an external nut you screw on, instead of the thread being b...

Re: Can you bend bars?
Pretty sure I've read about folks back in the good ol' days bending drop bars, cold setting without heat, out in order to add a flare. Think I remember them being filled with sand too
No idea of bar material though. Steel I can imagine.

Just had the same thing matey. Its possibly been compounded by some other stresses in my life but I was feeling really un-rested and fatigued for a good couple of months. Saw the doc and found the same as you. Tried the natural way first, but after a few weeks got impatient. After a week and a bit o...

You're very right scot routes.
Often the TLS mentality doesn't get covered in the bike build stage though. Is there an acronym for over think every possible option?

Re: Trek 1120 Forks
To be fair I have managed the last 4 years of my bikepacking life, and a good few years touring, without fork leg mounts.
I do however hate to think that one day I will suddenly have an urge to use them and they aren't on my forks legs.

Trek 1120 Forks
So I've just acquired a nice titanium frame. Well, its not actually in my possession yet but at some point the postie will pop it through the letter box. Obviously I'm getting pretty excited about putting it together and I am wanting a pretty carbon fork for it. I've read all the forum topics you ca...

If you can find one of the older carradice overlanders they are lighter. They can sometimes be found cheap on ebay.
