Re: Head torch recommendations
I've a Petzl Reactik as well, it's a really good headtorch. You can download the Petzl software which lets you play around with custom settings for the different modes. I use mine for running and xc skiing mainly, the only issue I've found is that on cold nights when my breath fogs, it can confuse t...

If I didn't already have a Longitude I'd be all over this, definitely like the sound of a cheaper option for loop bars!

Facebook comments section states that it is all paved. Big tyres still a good choice as the roads can be a bit rough!

Can't see a problem, worst case you wake up having your throat cut and your blood drained into a large bowl as an offering to the old gods.

Re: Racing in Norway anyone?
I'm tempted too, mainly because it's a 20 min ride from my house to the start! :-bd 200km a day on road is probably fairly doable as the time of year means about 20+ hours of daylight and if the weather is like it was this summer it would be a fantastic ride. It doesn't mention manned checkpoint,s s...

Re: Dynamo wheelset
12mm axle rules out Shimano, for now at least. You can either go SP (cheaper, potentially unreliable) or Schmidt (expensive but built to last). For road lighting, B&M lights are good and not super expensive, I have an IQ-X which very powerful, and they also make some that can provide USB power o...

Easiest if you can provide a bit more info - what axle size does your bike have and do you want on or off road lighting?

What fork? Most rigid fork either have holes at the bottom (assume as part of the welding process) which can be enlarged carefully to allow the wire up the inside of the leg and out where it meets the steerer tube. Nice and neat. Suspension fork, I run mine up the right leg, over the arch and up the...

Re: Squeaky shoes Giro Privateer
First, you could try changing or cleaning the insoles, might be dirt or muck underneath that's causing the squeaking. Otherwise, try taking the pedals off your bike, clipping them onto the shoes and look to see where the rubber is coming into contact. Then use a craft knife to trim it back a bit at ...

Clean padded pants, teeth cleaning, sun creme, mozi repellent and washing Step 1: Put that stuff in your bags. Step 2: That's it. Seriously though, as long as you can live with being a bit smelly, you really don't need much extra stuff. I find for multiple days, it's the extra food that takes the m...

but would you pay for it ? I would and I have. It's not a small amount of money, but for the amount of information and inspiration I've got from that site (and Bunyan Velo) over the years I'm happy to pay. Unfortunately, like they say, running a site like that costs money which they either have to ...

Re: Talk to me about cargo cages...
I've got a couple of the Blackburn cages that work well. Paired up with a couple of 5l drybags they're good for when the bike is fully loaded and I need extra storage. They do make the steering slower/heavier but you get used to it quickly.

If you're not in a huge hurry to get something, have a look on Ali Express at "3f UL Gear" - they make some very nice lightweight tents at a good price, lots of different styles to suit your needs. I've had a few bits of gear off them and been very happy, just as good as anything you'll bu...

Had the same thing happen to my osprey pack, I ordered a few of these:

No moving parts, won't break and lighter that the 2 piece plastic one it replaced!

A yoghurt pot? Get yourself some Wilko pour and store bags, you'll never look back! :-bd I pretty much just carry a few of these so I can rehydrate pasta, cous cous, porridge, etc and my titanium cup. Boil water in the cup, pour in the bag, seal the bag and put it in my hat to keep it warm. The adva...

You don't get very much Stooge for £750... The Ramin is a good choice (AFAIK designed by Jameso off this forum?), so don't be worried about "own brand" quality. You just get a lot more for you money. Re front suspension, how do you cope off road on your GT? You might be fine without,...

If it's 8 speed wouldn't the cheapest option be an Alivio rear derailleur and an 8 speed MTB cassette? Sunrace do an 11-40 one. Plus a new chain. Obviously bigger gaps than the road setup, but I've done basically the same on my bike with Sora/Deore 9spd.

Re: Bar roll set up with normal road drops
They work fine, the only things you will need to check are whether you have enough height between the bars and the tyre to prevent rubbing, and enough space horizontally for the levers to change gear if you have STI shifters. Something like the Alpkit dual ended 13l drybag strapped straight to the b...

Looks dodgy - everything exactly half price, the original prices seem random and pretty high in most cases, so not actually that cheap? I would avoid for sure.

Re: bar bags
The Alpamayo front harness is perfect as it has rubber spacers that hold it away from the bars and a strap around the headtube so there's no contact with the fork legs. Unfortunately they are pretty erratic in having them in stock, not sure if the company is still going? Otherwise, if you're going d...

The Decathlon "Itiwit" 5L ones are great, perfect size for a Blackburn cage so assume they would work in the Salsa ones too.
