Re: Huel?
I've not packed a meal replacement shake for cycling before. I have tried a Soylent clone for long days of hard physical stuff where normal meals would have been awkward and I was curious about finding and tweaking the recipe. I'm not sure about Huel but I was better off drinking mine gradually over...

Re: Bikepacking Brainpicking
I use flexible v-brake noodles at the shifter end, they give a good bit of flex and strain relief without the bend radius getting too small. Also works great for the Rohloff shifter's stupid perpendicular cable exits. It looks ridiculous on a Mary bar without them! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Acor-Adju...

Re: The non Alpkit, Alpkit stem cell!
Thanks for the idea! Two of these just turned up. They were just over 6 quid each delivered from Amazon. Looks like they will fit around the base of my sewing machine without having to rip seams so I'll sew a webbing ladder on and a couple of loops for bungee cord. They are surprisingly well made an...

Is this the complete kit with 2 soft bottles for clean/dirty? They sell one with dirty bag only.
If it is the full ish I'll take it.
I was looking at the squeeze but I also want a soft bottle for clean water (and the gizzits for connecting to a bladder)
Cheers!

Re: Air mat dilemma
Thermarest Prolite 3 (Short) user here. Paid a lot but it was ten years ago last month and it gets used and abused. I balance my heels on clothes in drybag (or on empty rucksack if hiking) and don't tend to fidget. Self-inflaters seems like the 'trad' option now but I won't be replacing it until it'...

Re: Milk for tea when bivvying
A popular thread so I thought I'd weigh in. Coffee is always drunk as a Whoopi Goldberg. I'm partial to liquorice root tea at home anyway. I bought a big bag of liquorice root from Amazon ages ago. It makes a pleasant naturally sweet drink that smells nothing like liquorice sweets. The sawdust sinks...

Nice bags! I seriously considered this for my Lion and Tiger because my frame bag is made from surplus MTP camo material. Not as nice as that Leopard either. The gate staff always comment on my bike when I ride it in a military establishment!
I figured my next bike might not be green though.

Can you pitch the tent as normal and then slide it under? Should be fairly easy with no weight in the tent.
Probably easier if you fold in such a way that partially unfolding exposes the full width. Unroll then pull through a bit at a time.

Re: Winchester to new forest
That's right. You can get from Fareham via Highlands Road (Hill Park cutting on OS map) or Titchfield bridleway to Knowle, then as the old line hits the active one you use the perimeter road to get to Mayles Lane. As you get to Wickham cross the main road and you're back on the disused line heading ...

Re: Weight distribution
I try to balance loads across front and back and have heavier stuff in a frame bag. I figured that way my fore/aft body positioning doesn't need to be relearned. For fun I also took the boy out in his Yepp Mini headset mounted baby seat with the bike fully loaded. He's two. Climbing lumpy stuff felt...

Re: Tyvek groundsheet.
Mark; I've used a similar method when hemming fabric for kite tieouts. To avoid the fabric pulling through I capture some thin line inside the hem before folding to spread the load over more than just the hole. Then punch or sew just inside the captured line so the guy pulls the line and not the fab...

Re: Winchester to new forest
Not massively interesting but if you leave the South Downs Way at Exton the old Meon Valley railway will take you to Wickham. Keep going South through Knowle to Titchfield then south you can pick up national route 2 at Hill Head, then take the ferry at Warsash, head through Southampton and get the H...

I googled it; looks repairable to me since it's unlined.
Something like:

Tape underneath and patch on top. Or this: http://underfuse.com/

Re: Painless Tubeless
Pretty good; the semislick rear rolls fast enough on road and sinks into mud enough for the outer lugs to work. It also catches loose dirt/gravel nicely if you lean. The Nobby Nic is nothing special, I just wanted something tougher than the stock conti X-kings which got shredded by flint. I bought t...

Re: Painless Tubeless
I think it only works because the thickness of the grommet helps avoid deformation when the pressure comes on. A thinner one would have to be much harder to prevent forcing through, probably such that it wouldn't conform to the valley. Zippy; I suspect I'd lose the tyre off the rim before they blew ...

Re: Painless Tubeless
Forgot to mention I did use a strip of Gorilla tape for the valve but only to the next hole each way and nowhere near the bead seat. Running an emergency tube would still be OK with this setup; it would certainly be fine to finish a ride and get you home. Longer term the tube might try to bond to th...

Not strictly MYOG but here's the best place for it. I went ghetto tubeless on my 2015 Longitude a while ago and I've tried various things; Stan's rubber strips, gorilla tape and some other thin tape. I swap tyres betwen knobblies and Super Moto slicks fairly often, sometimes disturbing the tape when...

Re: FS -Transmission parts from Genesis Longitude& Rohloff
Yes please, as long as there's no reason it won't fit! Once Rohloff'd I'm expecting to have to undo the caliper to get the wheel out because the brake is forward of the seatstay, does that sound about right? I'm still looking out for a hub. Our tandem has one, I'd love to be able to swap wheels but ...

I'm interested in doing the same thing to my Longitude so i'm slowly gathering parts. A wheelset went on eBay for less than £400 locally recently, gutted! Can I ask how the axle plate on Dan's is secured? I was thinking Monkey Bone but if you're selling one then maybe I'm wrong. If not I'll take tha...

Re: Whats oiling your gears?
I have a couple of cheapy automatic chain cleaner things (Park clones) I keep one half full of Scottoil. Clip one on and turn the cranks to brush the oil in then wipe the link plates (usually with the worst rag I can find). I've settled on this way because I hate how fiddly or messy it is to spray f...
