Re: TCW 26-28th Aug
I think I'll be one day behind you. I'm going to ride down from Caenarvon to Machynlleth on the 26th and then try to do the route in 2 days. From Knighton I was going to road ride down to Weston Super Mare to try to then do the Wessex Way.

Cycle shorts or new saddle?
I'm heading off for about 12 days riding in the uk. My charge spoon is flaking at the nose, so I'm in a bit of a quandry. I was going to take two or three pairs of cycling shorts, and when passing through a town was going to do a classic Laundrette pub combo. is it worth getting another pair or two ...

Re: Slicks on a mountain bike?
I got some scwhalbe marathon supremes from bikecomponent.de for half the british RRP including postage, and I think bikediscount. de is having a bit of a sale at the mo. definitely makes a difference.

Re: Chains
I'd suggest you buy from whatever manufacturer matches your rear cassette. Shimano and Sram use different up ramps and drop teeth designs, so using a shimano chain on a Sram cassette or vice versa might be a bit of a headache and lead to missed shifts. I've seen some good deals on Parker Internation...

Re: Trip advice needed
I used to sell outdoor gear from a place that covered moutaineering trips and such like. Ukhammocks supply really good gear and their down underquilt is one of the best bits of equipment I've bought in years.
Currently looking at the routes posted.
This should be a pretty good adventure.

Re: Trip advice needed
I have a blackbird hammock which is Über comfy, and a war bonnet superbly tarp, that has doors, so it can be rigged as a traditional ridge shelter. I was going to take a single sheet of tyvek if I need to use the blackbird as a bug bivy. Sleeping bag wise I have a Mtn hardware lamina and a Marmot do...

Re: Trip advice needed
Yep. I know that lesson well from trekking. Always some goon with an 85 litre pack when 40 will do. I figured get the set and treat it as a modular system for different rides/timescales. When I used to carry puritabs, it was mainly iodine and vit C to get it to coalesce and sink. Isn't technology gr...

Re: Trip advice needed
Thank you very much gents. I think the route total will be around 400 miles, and I will have about 12 days to do it in. I'll happily do road riding between routes to link them up, and I reckon i'll be able to do 70 - 80 miles in a day on Tarmac without killing myself. I should be able to bail out by...

Trip advice needed
I need some advice for a stupid route I am considering at the end of August. I have about 10 days to do something epic, and I considering a mix of road and off road riding to go from North Wales to Essex. I will be in LLanberis on 26th August and plan to ride down to the start of the Trans Cambrian ...
