https://twitter.com/Clarionrider/status/1133743846049886209?s=19 Karl had a rucksack on when I took these photos yesterday... He was on top form complaining a bit about elephant legs and planning on putting his feet up for a while to drain them in the bothy. He looked a bit gutted when see later on...

I only know Alex's name from doing Mountain Bike Orientering events.
I found this blog entry on Settle Harriers. A good read too.

Re: Veloviewer map - explorer tiles
Veloviewer Explorer tiles. What a fantastic way to help motivate yourself to get out and try new rides in the winter. :-bd My square was only 8x8 at first. However I've explored about 90% of the Peak District since I started using Strava (helps that I participate in a lot of Mountain Bike Orienteeri...

Re: Knackered knee replacement
I'm in a similar situation and I'm only 43  I've had a few ops with limited success but eventually my left knee ended up with Stage 4 arthritis. It was actually a relief to be told this as I had become very strrssed/anxious about the pain I was experiencing (& therefore the damage I must be...

Mega impressed with Slarge. Smashed it on 3rd attempt. That's commitment :o In fact impressive rides by everyone. PB's galore and super impressive debut times by all the new riders. There's obviously been a lot of thought put into the planning of most rides this year. But to then pull that off must ...

Re: Guy Martins round Britain
I did a ride/tour inspired by The Tour Divide too but that's as far as it went..... wasn't tempted to describe it as anything else though.
I've posted previously about it a long time ago.

Re: Guy Martins round Britain
Guy Martin wrote in his new book. I wasn’t sure before if the whole Tour Divide experience was going to break me, but it hadn’t. It made me realise that if I put my mind to it I can do anything. It's all getting very confusing. He thinks he did, some know he didn't and others think he did the GDMBR?...

Re: Guy Martins round Britain
Garmin only used when celestial navigation wasn't possible.I was following my Garmin, and the trail was fairly obvious a lot of the time, but because I hadn’t downloaded the USA map background on to my device it just showed a line, and me as a dot on it.

Re: Guy Martins round Britain
Skirts the issue generally in his new book. As writing retrospectively I'd have been interested to know what happened at Spray Lakes Reservoir as that set the tone for the rest of the ride. Finishes by comparing his ride to. I had cycled 2,745 miles, and probably a bit more, in 18 days and 6 hours, ...

I've not done the CL but have a similar problem best way I've found to manage it is. *Using knee high merino wool compression socks under knee length seal skinz The compression socks should help improve blood flow and keep your feet warmer. Seal skinz keep you dry (but only if knee length) Tape up t...

Re: OMM Bike events
If you enjoy bikepacking you're likely to enjoy events such as the OMM Bike. What's not to like? Two long days biking in an area that you've probably not ridden before. A chance to camp out and use your bikepacking kit. The added competition drives you on to ride that bit further and faster (just li...

Kielder 100 - The old 100 mile version was more or less a 100 mile ride on Fire Tracks.
The Manx 100 feels epic, looks epic and is a great mountain bike ride. Going back for the third time this summer.

Hey Rich, That 20 x Century Challenge is a great idea. Think I'll try that too. The Tour Divide with Tom should be a great fun and hopefully you'll get good weather too. (I did an August TD ride in 2010 and only had 1 x day of rain and a few showers). Best bike adventure ever and looks well impressi...

Re: 2016 Plans
After two failed HT550 attempts I'm going back to events that I know suit my strengths..... so lots of riding, some good technical descents and as a little 'hike a bike as possible' (Uphill hikes are OK, but long traverses and pushing a loaded bike downhill for me = major problems). Lined up so far ...

Re: UK terrain like the Tour Divide?
It's a fantastic bike ride and easy enough to prepare for, unlike the HT550 which needs more than just cycling fitness. Just ride your bike and chuck in as much adventure/exploring as you can. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4150/4957569063_c303ea6bf9_z.jpg Soaking up the View by Mountybiker , on Fli...

There is a Spar in Glyn Ceiriog and there are a couple of pubs too. The pub opposite the Spar serves food (The Glyn Ceiriog) till quite late at least 8.30pm. The main portions are massive too :o RE THE SPAR I'm reasonable confident that it opens at 8am and shuts at 9pm. I quite like the published ro...

Re: BB200 Route Gossip
Last weekend I had organised a MTB Weekend away for Stockport Clarion. We did 2 x 70km (2000m) days riding from Glyn-Ceiriog (well everyone apart from me due to broken wrist).
I think you'll either be going up or down this.... https://youtu.be/eaj3fkvAJCw

I'm out as I've broke my wrist. :| Had a few good weekends lined up that I was looking forward to after a summer full of biking. So no Polaris, or riding on the club weekend I've organised as well as missing out on the BB200. The good news is that two people on the reserve list will be happy  ...
