Hard cases for delicate items

Right, halfway through a hike I took a tumble, nothing major but I found myself falling on my bag. After brushing myself off and checking for damage I found my kit was unharmed, but my insulin pen in the outer pocket had snapped!
This could have been a serious disaster had I not been only 30 mins from home, if I was further field it could have been a whole different story.
Anyone got any ideas for something durable to store pens in whilst outdoors? Ive got a few military pelican cases but all are box shaped and overkill for just 2 pens. lightweight is good but pointless if its not durable. Something I can easily store in a pack, Framebag, ect is essential.
I know it only happened once but I've had many accidents far from help that could have been disastrous had I broken my pens.
All "perks" of the condition I guess

How big is an insulin pen, and will it fit in a sunglasses case, I.e. an Oakley Vault or similar?

If they look like the images I've just google, what about rigging something up to slide them down the ends of your handlebars with an attachment to the bar plug to get them out again?

Not sure on the size of said item but, would one of those 2piece toothbrush holders work? Or maybe a "sharps kit" container, sans contents of course.

Some way of attaching them parallel to major bike tubes would be worth thinking about. A crash big enough to bend your top tube would leave you in a worse state I'd wager!
Would a screw top single cigar tube be big enough? could easily tape that onto the underside of top tube...

How about the tubes that stuff like ZeroCal tablets come in? They're about the same size as Steradent tubes. Roughly 26mm internal diameter and 130mm in length (taking into account the cap)

When boots got bought over by wallgreens about 2 years ago, there range changed and you could get cases for your insulin pens. Would also try diabetes uk. And email norodisk, sandofi etc.
