GPS Tracking

I see that some folk on here use Spot Tracker to keep their loved ones updated with their whereabouts but does anyone else use any other systems to let the outside world know they're safe?

I've been using the Viewranger app on my phone for short walks and have found that it incorporates Buddy Beacon so people can track live progress. It relies on mobile signal to send your location but saves historical whereabouts so that if you lose signal, it will update your track when you regain signal.
Not sure how great it will be in deepest Wales but i'll be giving it a try to give those at home an idea of where i'm at.

Hi Dan

I had a really good hunt before I bought my Spot but couldn't find anything that reviewed as well and had such developed software & services, so I bit the bullet;

(The price seems to fluctuate a bit here, but is still less than the more 'usual' sources)

Proved to be a nicely made piece of kit, with an excellent supporting website (unlike Garmin!). Tried it out this weekend and it performed faultlessly - there are apparently some caveats about 'performance under trees' but with the transmit set to every 10 min, I reckon you'd have to be in the middle of the Black Forest for that to be an issue..
