What do people do to keep the crawlies from sharing their bed with them?

In a constant effort to go lighter and ditch the tent in trying to build a system that'll keep me comfortable and keeping biting things out is a priority.

I've tried wearing a headnet in a bivi but still felt exposed (and woke up covered in bites) and I've sewn a net cone onto the entrance of the bivi but felt quite claustrophobic and a faff, something being under a tarp shouldn't feel like!

So I'm looking into maybe sewing one of those nano bugnets for beds into a groundsheet as a tent like inner? Weight of the net (80g) and a minimal groundsheet should keep it light in theory though the entrance could add weight

I feel like i am far more comfortable in an actual tent, shared with my partner ofcourse, but a very vague definition of 'tent' with something more open and minimal like a tarp tent or tarp + bug bivi. For 2 people ofcourse.
Hopefully the DIY approach with save some money and still be quite light, otherwise i may have to bite the bullet and get a Trekkertent.....

Most of my bivvy bags have some type of netting and any I use in summer certainly do. I don't find them a faff at all, however I do think netting needs to be incorporated into the design early on and not added later ... drawcord closures really don't lend themselves well to the idea.

Not had need for a bug net yet, though no doubt the time will come Maybe we've been lucky and just happened to bivy in bug free areas.

I've looked into bivis with better bug nets or even ones with full noseeum top, but once you take into account needing to outfit two people the weight (and cost) adds up, maybe why I'm seeing a net inner a more efficient option for a couple.

How much does that trekmates net weigh? Doesn't seem to be listed.

I've found a sea to summit nano net for 80g (single bed) or 120g (double bed) and looks like a single is actually big enough for 2 camp beds at 1.4m wide, but not sure if its cheaper to source the noseeum and sew together myself. Adding a means of entrance could ramp the weight up if I'm not careful though
