Ocelot vs Apidura

I'm looking for a partial frame bag and have narrowed it down to the two above. The WildCat ocelot, or the Apidura mountain frame bag. I don't like the possum and the tangle seems too expensive.

Anyone have any opinions on the two bags ? They're similarly priced although the apidura provides a bit more storage.

Thanks.

Go for the wildcat gear. Proper British. If there's a problem they will fix it. There never is. Made to a far higher standard than apidura. I had an apidura bag. I now have a wildcat gear one. I had the same dilemma. And paid twice.

I am just going to come out and say it.Imo apidura is for road/dirt audex type cycling made light and flimsy, not for off road trail use, and looks a bit 'girly'. That will rub a few up the wrong way, but that's my opinion.

Chris.

Ocelot is a superb piece of kit, surprisingly roomy and as Chris says - 'tis made in the UK.

Not got either, but as the ocelot is a wildcat piece of gear, and I've got several of their kit and its ace!

How about a Restrap one? Also UK made and from tough material.

Yeah, Restrap look useful and made in Yorkshire!
But would have to go with the Wildcat, vaguely exciting build quality. Made to go the distance and lots of decent features too.
Not the cheapest either but you pays for what you gets in outdoor kit, I find.

had both. wildcat is far better quality.......and roomier.
the left side pocket on the apidura is nigh on useless. only good for a pump or folded pole.

Having said that, the restrap bag does look really nice.

restrap look ok.

However. Of all the brands I've used. Wildcat gear had taken the most stick from rotten conditions and continues to out perform everything else.
My early revelate bag comes close but I've witnessed a few failures on recent ones.

Also, if it helps in any way. Look up Ian barringtons blog. He's half of wildcat and I expect tests everything thoroughly. If there's flaws, they would have been found out.

Another Ocelot vote here. My favourite bit of bike packing gear.

Just a thought, for those of you who do use partial farme bags like the Ocelot, do you have to use side entry bottle cages ?

Depends what size frame. My medium -yes, only room for one side entry with cage mounted on extra bosses. mje25's XL no problem. Two bottles in original position.

Ocelot + side entry cage for me on a little dinky 16" Inbred ... works well.

Oooh, good timing on this thread. I've just been looking at the Ocelot vs the full triangle Leopard. So far I've been riding with a full frame bag and Camelback or water bottles on the fork or underneath the down tube, but I'd like to get those bottles into the main triangle when possible. Just wondering if the Ocelot is going to provide enough room. My frame has a reasonably big triangle (19" and not-overly-sloping top tube), so hope to fit two 750 or 1 litre bottles beneath the Ocelot without too much fiddle. Side entry cages... hmmm.

Made in the UK? The wildcat is even better, made in wales! And like anything born from purpose and home made the attention to detail is superb.

Though I dont own one myself I've seen much of Beth's work and its second to none.

Personally though all mine I've built myself using fabrics left over from jobs I've done for the forces, not enough love for Cordura nowadays....

Ian, It would be really handy if you could download and print a pdf side profile of some products - may be a couple of sheets of A4 that you tape together. Just an idea
