So we spent the day trialing where our kit will go for our December trip to Cuba but we haven't got dry bags for Dan's Gorilla cages yet. We really wanted Alpkit ones as the fabric is so durable but they still haven't got any in stock. Not to worry, I made a couple this evening and very proud I am of them too. The problem is this - We've packed them up, (I made them long and skinny), Dan excitedly strapped them into the cage and clipped them onto his Genesis Longitude and you wont believe this, but the braze-ons on the right hand fork are so far round towards the back of the bike that the bag is hitting the spokes and the tyre. The left hand fitting is perfect. We tried switching them around but the problem is the same, so it's not how the bag is packed.
We are f**ked!

Has anyone actually used gorilla cages on their forks and seen them in action or have we got a fault?

HELP! I've spent half the evening making the flippin bags and now this happens.

It can only really be 'dodgy' forks ... bosses attached in different places, one correct, one not so much.

(It would have to be a by a fair bit though so I would have thought obvious when looking at it in the forks)

I'd have said it's a manufacturing / QC issue, so warranty replacement. The 2016 Longitude actually comes with Gorilla cages, so you'd expect them to fit.

If it were me, I'd pen a nice polite email to Genesis explaing your forthcoming Cuba trip and ask for some new ones.

For holding a tarp up or do you have a devious plan to sort the fork mounts out with it?

I was hoping you might have a cunning plan to strap on the cages. If I remember rightly, there was something in the pipeline somewhere about a thingamyjig that would fit gorilla cages to fork without bosses.

Don't need a strap-on for the tarp. We're taking a mosquito net tent affair.

With you, there is a cunning thing but it won't be available anywhere until the New Year. I'm sure Genesis will be fine.

Using Gorillas on my Genesis Longitude without issue

Use jubilee clips to mount it in the right place. Doesn't look pretty but will work just fine.

Pair of Monkii Clips?

Or use a load of tape to stick the cage in the right place. Insulation, gaffer or better still gorilla tape. It'll be fine for lighter but bulky stuff.

I was about to post the Monkii clip that I had for sale here in the classified section, so I took it back out of the packaging to check if it could work with a second as a temporary fix.

Because of the bosses already on the fork, the monkii clip won't sit in the correct position and the fixing screw would be perilously close to the spokes. Also the forks are tapered and too narrow to grip. Maybe with scraps of inner tube, one could get a decent fit but as I mentioned the bosses mess with positioning.

Thanks to everyone who has offered a suggestion. Anything's worth a try.

Dan has sent emails off to about 10 people at Genesis which is where we got the bike from, Cheeky Monkey. It was a replacement for his previous bike so we dealt directly with Genesis not a shop.
