Alpkit Hunka

As per my message in classifieds, i'm after a bivi bag for the other half. I did want a Hunka XL but Alpkit are out of stock for a while.
Do I really need to get the XL? My reason for choosing it was so that a mat will fit inside (2.5cm 3/4 size self inflating mat - similar to the Base 120.).
Anyone know if the regular size Hunka will fit a mat inside? If so, I'll just opt for that.

Not sure about the regular Hunka, but I have an XL here that I really should sell. Used only once (on a dry South Downs trip). £30 + delivery if you're interested.

Both mine and Janes mats are inside our normal Hunka's. Its never a problem. The XL Hunka is for large expedition bags, where the down would not be allowed to expand inside a normal hunka. You'll be fine in the uk with a normal one... :D

Cheers Andy for the info but i've already agreed to buy Mark's. I think she'll be glad of the extra space.

As Alpkit are out of XL Hunka's until May or June, is there a similar alternative? The Rab survival zone is around sixty quid. Like with most things, there are good and bad reviews out there. Is it a good piece of kit, or should I wait until the Hunka's are back on stock?

I'd consider a RAB Storm, I've got an older version of it and it's very good. Unlike a Hunka or Survival Zone you can fully enclose yourself in a Storm in a storm

... much more a bivvy bag than a sleeping bag cover.

About the cheapest I can find with a quick search ... under £50.

I've got a Hunka XL that I've used twice (both times on dry nights on a groundsheet and so it's in pretty much brand-new condition) which I might be willing to sell (as I've changed my sleeping set-up and so now don't need it).
Let me know if you're interested.....
Gairy.
p.s. Stuart - my Mountain Hardwear 'Spectre' arrived - man it has some serious loft - can't wait to give it a go!

Go Outdoors are selling a Hi-Gear nylon bivvy bag for £25:

No idea if it's any good or not though.

They're a really nice bit of kit ... I can't understand why they've stopped producing them.
