As you come out of Bishops Castle, don't go straight up the hill...take the dogleg around to the south and join the route a few miles further down beyond Lydbury North. Save you a little bit of a climb...and as you're going up the Shropshire Way from the Plowden end, you'll want your legs in shape.

Hope that helps.

Dave, living on the Wirral I can meet you just as you cross the River Dee and ride round until you reach the Mersey (are you getting the ferry or train?)

I know lots of decent cafe's, pubs etc. in the area should you need to stop for refreshment.

cheers

If my legs are still working after the BB200 I might join you for a while from Newport up on Thursday 15th. For as long as I can keep up with you on your CX bikes anyway.

I'll come over and meet you on the Wirral on the Saturday and ride you in to mine.

No swearing but your route will be 2 or 3 miles longer as we will follow the Leeds Liverpool canal to mine rather than the direct route you've plotted on your map.

See you soon

Good luck Dave and Andy for your big trip that starts tomorrow.

Just spent 2 hours cleaning all the "paperwork" up from my home office/spare room to make room for one of you.

See you on the Wirral on Saturday afternoon

This weeks weather forecast on Countryfile say's the next 7 days should be dry with cold Easterly winds from Tuesday, followed by Northerly cold (head winds) the week afterwards but still dry.

Cheers John. Currently in the YHA in Penzance, Andy is on the sleeper train. Not sure we are going to enjoy those winds but has to be better than rain. See you Saturday.

Bob, after going over it on the yd200 in the other direction it's worse than I remember! Much worse!

So with apologies to swear-o-philes everywhere I have strongly advised Dave to F*****g omit it...

Might be a bit late now but if you want a bit more off-road/gravel action then the The West Loch Awe Timber Haul Route runs parallel to NCN 78

I did it on Saturday in the same direction you did - type 2 fun on an MTB, probably close to type 3 on a CX. I suspect it's close to or possibly above Barter451 (the point at which Dave spontaneously explodes  )

Dave has already had a Barter451 on the climb out of Widdecombe !!

He is also spontaneously exploding and blaming the energy bars.

I was warned by @edaleskyline about the track above dent on Twitter. Not sure who that is on here but I did modify it.
