Hi there,

A few details/photos/GPS links to a 3 month bikepacking trip we did from San Diego to Whistler last summer, riding up through the Sierra Nevada and Cascade ranges.
A lot of it's in French I'm afraid, but the photos are in English ;-)

That looks cracking Finn, out of interest what maps did you take and did you find them detailed enough?

I think we'd all like to know the story behind this pic

Indeed, it was a great adventure. Got to start planning another long one...

We didn't take any paper maps with us. We spent many, many evening's trawling through various mtb websites and maps (my topo us, open street cycle, and another, I forget the name) in order to create a route that was loaded into a gps before we set off. We also had a backup gps and a macbook air with maps in (and also to update the blog whenever we had a connection). We modified certain sections of our route depending on the people/riders we met, local info, etc.
We found reasonable maps for California, but not for Oregon and Washington. However we still managed to find a lot of singletrack on maps, so they weren't that bad. Were a bit spoilt in the UK and France with OS and IGN :-)

Ahh yes, what looked like a great valley with a promissing singletrack turned into an 8 hour hike a bike, with this pool and mini waterfall to cross. I was actually treading water, fully clothed, with the bike above my head!
You win some, you lose some. Other days were 100% singletrack with amasing bivvy spots:-)

Whoops, just realised I replied to you in French... Here's a link to fairly decent maps for California - http://www.twonav.com/fr/californie-topo-dalles-198261
