Winters coming, whats on your feet?

Right, in similar fashion to the other topic, but without hijacking, what footwear for winter?
I don't see myself riding in deep winter snow, but cold feet this time of year is a real problem for me, my usual attitude of "you're not riding hard enough" doesn't work for my toes, and I've had issues in the past from cold feet/poor circulation/diabetes, ect
Is it better to layer up with your regular shoes using socks, over shoes, so on or are dedicated winter shoes worth it?
I'm usually a fan of the former for changing conditions and cost, but maybe this doesn't apply to feet?

If your normal shoes are a good fit then you'll just get cold feet by trying to use thicker socks. Much better to go up a size and make some room in there.
I've used waterproof/insulated snow-shoe boots on the fatbike for the past three winters. There is, of course, the usual problem about snow/rain getting in the top so a gaiter of some sort comes in handy.
If you're really keen (rich) then look at the 45Nrth range. It's just been revamped too.

Bontrager are bringing out a new boot with removable lining, called the OMW (old man winter), worth checking out. Think 45nrth but cheaper (and possibly not quite as warm)

I got a pair of Wolvhammers half price from Charlie the Bikemonger. They will be my footwear of choice for the Puffer, but for most other things they are probably too warm.

I've got a pair of the shimano MTB boots, I was a bit sceptical of them. But I'm really surprised how comfortable they are, nice and warm and great to walk in as well but nice and stiff for cycling.
Also look good for pubs or cafes and not looking like a full on cyclist.
I use them with crankbrothers cleats for egg beaters.
Ps. And I had to get one size up as they do come up small. I'm a size 8 normally so got a nine. Just the right size for a pair of Merino Baa Baa endura socks.

Northwave arctic celsius with space for thick wool ski socks. Worked well in the snow last year but I'm tempted to bung my boot heaters in there as well

For a wee moment I had visions of folk pedaling around in yellow steel toed wellies & bright orange oilskins

I have a pair of Giro Alpineduro, look a bit like walking boots, very warm. I have also made myself some gaitors, have a look in MYOG.

Same as summer - inov8 fell shoes but half a size up with neoprene socks and sometimes over shoes

My Shimano MW81 boots still, now on their third winter. They've not fallen apart yet, and are still keeping my feet dry when the water isn't half-way up my legs, therefore they aren't getting retired yet.

just on the lookout for some nice winter footwear.
last 5 years my feet have been clad in 5/10 exum guide boots. warm waterproof and good on flat pedals. i can no longer find them available.
sports pursuits have some dachstein approach boots that look good, and they are half price. anyone ever used them?

+1 here.
For 80% of my Alps winter riding I still wear my Gore Inov8 trainers.
For the other 20% I got some Columbia 'Bugaboot Plus II' boots which are rated down to -32°c, weigh nothing, are supple as hell for flat pedals and cost about £70 if you shop around.
I really rate them!

For those that use overshoes, any recommendations?
Most I'm looking at are clearly designed for roadie shoes, what works well with SPD recessed cleats to walk in?
And like I said, deep winter artic conditions aren't exactly on the agenda (unless I get a fatbike...hmmm) but the second temps from below +5 im suffering*
Maybe the best solution to cold feet pedalling, is to incorporate spontaneous hike a bike to warm up...if anybody asks just call it "cyclocross"
*
until they drop to -2 and I go numb, no pain then

Getting overshoes on my size 45 MW81 was difficult, zipped ones like the endura ones are a nightmare with cold fingers. Altura nightvision are nice and low bulk and are just Velcro at the back. I managed to lose them at Again so have got some £10 Px neoprene ones. In l/xl they are a good fit but not as weather resistant and a lot bulkier.

A pair of Sealskinz socks under normal Shimano SPD shoes.... The socks seem to do a pretty good job of keeping some level of warmth, even when you have inevitably gone in water over the top of them!

I wore mine from autumn through to spring last year. Warn and toasty without being to hot. Two season merino socks most of the time then just put warmer socks on when it was proper cold. I get sweaty hot feet and was never two warm for me.

Another Shimano MT90 boots with Woolie Boolie merino socks wearer here. Sized for plenty of toe wiggle room (as advised above). In really cold weather I'll slip in a pair of liner socks too. The only time I need more is on long faster road sections in sub-zero conditions when windchill becomes a factor.
