Just a bit of fun mixed with curiosity, what do you take on regular day rides?
I'm not talking wallet and keys for a trip up the pub, but for long epics just short of an overnighter.

Has bikepacking taught you to be prepared and well packed, or are you a weight weenie living out of jersey pockets?

I find my long day rides similar to how I tour, minus sleeping kit. This makes it easy to just add 2 drybags to make it an overnighter.
I usually take a backpack or framebag now with:

Tubes and co2
Survival tool kit
Glucose monitor and needles
Phone + moneyclip
Pakajak waterproof
Shock pump for trails
Snacks and carbs
First aid kit
Folding cutlery
Knife
Buff and liner gloves
Light baggy shorts for modesty

It can be a fair bit but I nearly always use everything, including first aid....im always needing that..

How do yours differ? And does it change based on what you ride? I.e long road rides or fast bike park days?

Depends so much on time of year; forecast and the like. As a minimum for off-road:

1 tube (even though I run tubeless)
small tube of sealant
pump
repair kit (Hope BB tube with: multitool; 2 tyre levers; 2 tyre boots made from toothpaste tube; patches; zip ties; spare chain link; spare quicklink; gloves; duct tape)
debit card + cash

Then add some or all of the following:
waterproof
warm jacket
arm warmers
buff
water bottle or camelbak
mobile phone
camera

For a road ride (i.e. on a road bike):
small saddle bag containing:
CO2 cartridge & gadget
spare inner tube
2 tyre levers
multitool

In my jersey pockets I'll have
debit card + cash
pump (it doesn't fit on the frame )
mobile phone

Depending on weather I'll also have some combination of:
arm warmers
gilet
waterproof
buff

Since the recent thread on kit carried, I've been a touch more daring/minimal with what I carry, as my list seemed lengthy compared to some. In an effort to minimize, my ride on Wed. had my std. toolkit in a Jerry Can bag and in a Batpack6 I had just the single spare tube, a rain jacket, a phone and my keys.

I'm so used to having all the kit on Lois that she felt really light.

I don't have a phone but will sometimes carry a camera, don't take a first aid kit if I'm riding alone or any spare clothes. There's usually no shops, so don't bother with money but will sometimes stick a map in my jersey pocket if I'm trying to find something / somewhere specific.

Tools / spares usually consist of a tube, single tyre lever, small multi-tool and a pump. Usually don't eat much while riding so maybe a piece of flapjack stuffed in a pocket and a 600ml water bottle.

If I have my professional hat on ... I carry all kinds of rubbish

Basically that, although I normally have my phone and use the camera on that unless I'm actually intending a photo-ride.

If the weather looks changeable I might carry a lightweight jacket (one with zip-off sleeves is handy).

Day rides...probably not. If I'm out for a few days in the boonies, I carry a gear hanger + the bracket for between the hanger and deraileur.

I find there's quite a difference between typical mountain bikers and roadies,

Most club riders fit everything in a tiny saddlebag for punctures, with beer money and gels in the jersey...

Yet at the local trails everyone has massive camelbaks full of....well...i dont actually know, tools,layers and pads I can only presume.
I wondered where we fit in considering were used to long tours and preparedness.

I used to use small frame bags for bike stuff, and a waist pack for personal stuff (id rather have my insulin and sugar on my person in an emergency).
But a small backpack just seemed to work out better for carrying a jacket and food, as my meds filled the waistpack, although the sweatier back I'm not too happy about, its a compromise

Agreed!
I'm a firm follower of everyday carry, and like to consider myself pretty prepared daily, in both mind and gear
It's also taught me how to carry less and make the most out of what you have and improvise, knowledge weighs nothing.
