Re-Proof advice

While I have re-proofed canvas and gore-text stuff in the past what do you guys do for tent, tarps etc?

I have a fairly old Marmot Swallow 2 that, last night, leaked a fair bit of the wet stuff in several areas.

Looking at the fly from underneath there were a lot of droplets etc which then found their way into the main part of the tent

It wasn't a boat load but enough to dampen a pair of thermorests, corner of pillows and dropping all over the sleeping bags!

So I looked up the material (as I knew you guys would want to know exaclty) and its 40d nylon ripstop 2000mm PU/silicone.

The 1st thing that struck me was that its only 2000mm HH :? most of my other previous tents have been 3000+. Would this make much difference?

Anyway, it needs to bead the droplets better so any advice greatly appreciated. I have a bottle of spray on Nikwax if that will do the job.

Cheers,

G

Looks good, have you used it?

On closer inspection it seems (no pun  ) that a number of the taped seams have lifted edges and a few have cracked/flakey. So it looks like it may be coming through predominantly the seams.

Am I better off getting them taped properly by Marmot or is spreading that 'seam seal' stuff around the best way to go?

Seam Grip is probably the stuff you need. There's a discussion on this very forum right here: http://bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk/phpBB ... 476&p=3952

Thanks guys,

Marmot said they wont repair it as the tent is old

So im going to remove all the old tape and seam seal it ALL myself.

The Silnet tubes are 28g. Could anyone tell me what quantity I would need to cover a 2 person backpacking tent? I was going to order 2, does this seem  reasonable?
