Anyone we know riding it?

Also on another note I have next friday off work. Depending how things pan out I may drive down to Dover thursday night, catch the ferry over and ride to the start (its only 200k on the road). Anyone else thinking about it?

Just having a click around the links. That looks like a very hard thing indeed, good luck to anyone riding.

There's a long start list this year with a few recognisable names: http://reportage.transcontinental.cc/?page_id=1475

I found dot-watching the TCR is more interesting than TransAm, not fussed about the racing aspect but the variety of routes between checkpoints can be quite interesting - there's a Finnish randonneur, Mikko, who's had a tendancy to take the scenic route in previous years...

Josh Ibbet seems to be going very light with kit:

While Gunther D is going aero...

There's also a couple of guys from/linked-to Shand riding some nice looking Stoaters!

Gunther has a fair pedigree, if he's riding that, it's for a reason.

^^ Finished 10th (I think) in the AZT750 earlier this year. He did ride with a set of Lauf forks though, maybe he just likes to stand out from the crowd while he's racing...

Half of me thinks brilliant idea on the aero wheels and the other half thinks either 35/50mm wheels would be better suited. Also, looks like tubs but I could be mistaken. I'd be sticking to clinchers for a ride like that

I'm just guessing here but won't the aero benefit be largely lost due to the bags, etc?

Not really; there will be some aero benefit with those wheels compared to normal ones. Marginal gains, innit...

...and Slipstream Wheels is Gunther's business, so I expect there's a certain amount of show-casing of that too

I get that luggage won't effect the wheels but a 13L dry bag strapped to the bars ain't no fairing

I didn't know that ... makes much more sense now

Josh is going well, 'seems' to be in sixth place at the moment having covered a distance of 220km and a stopped time of just 9 seconds

I think trackleaders times are days:hours:minutes, currently done 400+ km and has only stopped for 1/4 hour...

As the Spot emits a track point every 10 mins, it would be possible to stop for short durations and track leaders not detect it.

That's not cricket though

Quite a few reports of long rides, juliana rode 200km before my breakfast, Stuart and Dave aren't far off 300km and Stand cycles just reported a 21 hour ride

Looking fwd to watching this. Best of luck to Jack, Patricio from Evans and Russel from Shand.

Some fast-looking bikes posted up there. I wouldn't fancy any of them on the Strada Assietta though! : ) will be interesting to see how progress works out on that section - we rode it last week and all I could think was that 28c road tyres there would be 'interesting'.. even 35C CX tyres would be tricky. It's a great section to include, would be good to see more of that in the TCR imo.

Josh is going very well. Looks like he's just down off the Strada Assietta and in 2nd place.

The speed at which the fast guys zoom across the map is just incredible!

Gunther (bashed knee) and Juliana (sore knees) are both out.
