Genesis have just released details from there 2016 line up. After selling out last years model, they've controversially decided to change this years to a 27.5+ set up. Personally I don't have a problem with this as being a short arse 29+ tyres always seemed a bit demonic. Their set up also allows for a more traditional triple ring at the front with the option of increasing tyre size and reducing it to a 1 x set up. Flexibility seems to be their ethos on this build which is also shown in their choice of fork. Suspension corrected this year.......but in Aluminium! This is sure to ruffle a few feathers. With tyres that big a light (? ish), stiff Al fork is a viable option. I find steel forks very reassuring in general but there's no reason not to use Al there. Personally I'd take Al over carbon for a bike like that, especially if you want side cages - potentially fairly easy to knock a side cage and mess up a carbon fork.

Yes, except the mashing together of "standards" with things like the boost front not boost rear. I'd much prefer the front to be not boost to match the rear and to make building one up from spares/easily available parts an option. Their point about buying forks in the future kind of stands, but aren't I right in thinking that 29er forks take B+ with ease, as is sort of the point with B+, its like 29+ but will fit in a standard 29er frame?
Also, they don't mention if it will take standard 29x2.3/4 wheels/tires, as that would make it a lot more attractive to a lot of people I think?

Fair point Ben, the forward compatibility of a boost front hub for a fork upgrade is something I looked at for the Ramin B+. We went with a non-boost F+R with hubs that have convertable end caps for backward compatibility with older 29ers - ie buy a B+ bike rigid and get wheel swappability with your existing 29er, but I don't think either way of doing it is better as such. It's all a bit of a mess with wheels and standards at the moment, a headache - the easy thing is to go with the flow, smaller brands can be resistant to that but have to risk getting it right for some and wrong for others.
You're right with 29er forks taking B+, mostly. That was my take on the Ramin B+ and the whole need for older 29<>new B+ interchangeability. It's easier for me/Pinnacle as no-one buys 2k Pinnacles expecting bleeding-edge tech, but we'll buy a good value bike that fits with other more premium bikes we have esecially if there's added value from garage stock swapping. Genesis are sort of in the middle there, or leaning more towards main-bike brand and still sell to the fettlers.
Anyway .. back to Genesis / no hijack intended, just my 2p from a similar position. I'm sure the Longitude would fit 29x2.4s, it has the fork and chainstay length to suggest so.

I love my Longitude, I wonder if all those people who missed out are holding back for this one?

£1200 for a complete bike seems like remarkable value. I'm unsure whether to get one of these or get a set of 27.5+/650b+ wheel & tyre combo for my existing bike. The latter uses a lot less of my limited storage space.

Seems quite expensive to me for a rigid deore equipped bike made from fairly normal tubing and a alloy fork? The only special bits are the tyres, even the rims aren't the nice wide scrapers, no special rear hub or bottom bracket to push the price up.

If they'd rereleased last years I reckon I'd have been in the queue but probably won't now.

£200 more than last year for slightly smaller diameter wheels that are .4" wider

Non Boost means your old stuff will fit.
Boost means it won't.

At least genesis have taken the time to justify their decisions.

It's about increasing tyre clearance behind the seat tube and reducing shifting effort. Side-swing apparently works really well and I'll be having that on my new frame.

Rear facing dropouts always look like a inelegant solution to me. Surely it makes rear wheel removal a PITA?
