Not that a lot of folks on this forum might have done it, being on the west coast of the US, but interesting to see what happens when an event gets
over hyped and common sense/manners go out the window. My wife and I had thought of going out in the fall one year to ride the route. Didn't want to ride
with the hipsters in May, but do our own thing in the shoulder season.

I'm saddened but I'm not surprised ... 99% of the population might be lovely but that still leaves 70 million wa*kers, all willing and quite able to spoil things for the rest.

Recently, I can't help but think that the rise in popularity of anything with an 'Adventure' label and particulary the promotion of 'easy access adventure' will make these type of things much more common. I know that makes me sound like some sort of righteous nutter but I genuinely believe that if people are going to be encouraged into the great outdoors then they should also be told how to respect and care for it ... I bet a thousand times more people have read a book about 'escaping the city for a night armed with nothing but a bivvy bag', than have read 'How to sh1t in the woods'. One encourages you to get out there by making it sound cool and exciting, the other actually equipps you to be there.

its the same story as trail centres rubbish all over the trails etc. Well the ones I've being to anyway

That's a real shame. I've always found the hospitality of strangers in Oregon to be over the top generous.

I've thought about riding the route too, I've pedaled some bits on and off road around the Cascades and found it a beautiful landscape.
