I am about to change my stove etc, I am used to using the Trangia (27-2) in panniers, but looking to reduce the size down to fit in a frame bag (or fork bags).

My thought process was to either use a Trangia Mini (weight around 330g and £23), or the AlpKit BruKit (weight around 330b with the gas and c.£35). The Brukit feels a bit big for a solo outing. The Trangia has 15cm diameter so would into the fork stuff bag. The other option I was looking at was the Vargo Hex stove (using my existing burner).

Can I ask what you guys are using and whether there is anything else I am missing?

Yes I have seen them and they look good, but was tempted to keep using a Trangia burner, if going alcohol based, as I know them inside out.

Guess it depends what you're cooking but if you have the Trangia burner already, have you looked at the 'Trangia Triangle' (their Clickstand-copy)? If you get a ti-mug to go on top, I guess the burner would fit in there, the stand packs flat so dead easy to slip in a frame bag... It's a little weighty (guess you're looking at about 300g + fuel and matches...) but pretty cheap!

Are you actually wanting to 'cook' or is it just a matter of boiling water, brewing up? If it's brewing up and you really want to drop the weight / packsize then an 8g stove, tapered windshield and 450ml Ti mug is really about as light as it gets ... your whole 'cooking kit' will be under 100g + fuel. If you need to boil more water then maybe a 22g stove.

If you actually want to cook, then an AfterBurner might be better as you can adjust the output and actually simmer.

Yes I had looked at the Triangle (this what I was originally looking at) , but it won't fit a ti-mug - it had a ridiculous 123mm mounting diameter.

Hi Stuart, cooking would be an exaggeration, but simmering would be good.

I am impressed with those afterburners - they just look cool!

I use the gelert trangia mini copy, its lighter, cheaper and harder wearing, I really rate it and I'm happy to go with the extra weight for the practicality. I even did a cheese fondue on it once!

I Have the Brukit and unless your cooking something with bulk IE pasta this kit is a bit big for solo, but it does pack down to a good size (all the gubbins and a small gas can fit inside the mug) and will fit in either a framebag, or strapped to a fork leg using a Anything cage.

I have stu's afterburner stove (2 actually as the wife wanted one). I also have a triangia as well.

My go to stove kit is Stu's Afterburner and very lightweight windshield (came with stove) with a Alpkit myti mug. Really lightweight, a lot more efficient than the triangia and it all fits in the mug afterwards with room spare for all your brewing essentials (tea/coffee etc).

Simmer works well for pasta and rice dishes, no burnt pans any more.

Can't go wrong.

Trangia burner with trangia triangle and MSR titan kettle for me .
Big enough you can cook a decent size portion of porridge/ pasta/what have you, not ultra light but light enough and you already have the burner.

Yes, very much an uplighter ... we have some progress already, just about to head off int' workshop again and see if we can't find some more

The afterburner has come through and it's vaguely exciting. Just done a few tests boiling water and it heats the water the very quickly.
