Hi all

I'm looking to get either the Cumulus 150 or 250 quilt...but, I'm finding it hard to make the choice...

My current bag is pipe dream 400, and I usually carry with me a pair of leggings and have on/with me a merino base layer top. Plus, if it looks a bit on the cool side, I have a fab microlight down jacket I use inside the bag/wearing whilst sorting stuff out.

I'd mainly use it for lightweight ventures and events like the BB200.

So thinking out loud I'm leaning towards the 150 as it lighter and cheaper... and I figure it can be 'boosted' with the clothes / jacket.

But then for 100ish grams more and a bit more cash theres the 250, which could represent a very versatile option.

Anyone care to give out any thoughts to help make a choice or even to confuse things more?!

I have a 150 and a 350 Cumulus, the 350 is my do it all quilt of choice! Have had it down to about 1/ 2 deg. with a bit of "boosting"as you say, had it on WRT with no problem and the Northern winter bivvy. My 150 I have only used once and it was about 8/ 9 deg. the quilt lofts loads and I was fine.
From what you are saying I reckon you would have more versatility with the 250, as I feel it a summer quilt.
The pack size and weight of them is very good and quality vaguely exciting.
Wait till Stu (who has a 150) or Chew ( who has a 250) chuck their ten-penuth worth in.
Superb quilts, you won't regret whichever way you go !

After asking Stu the very same question I went for the 250 and used it for the very first time last night.
I guess it went down to 4 or 5 degrees high up in the forest, I wore leggings, merino sock and a long sleaved cycling top plus a bennie hat. Laying on a neo air and I only felt a bit cold after getting up for a p.....
I got around 7 hours of sleep and I'd hate to have been in the 150.
I'd say that the
150 is for high summer only.
250 from May to late Sept.

Yeah, agree with all of the above ... you'll get much more use from the 250.

I've also got a PD400 and the Cumulus 250 and they are very similar in terms of temperature rating,although the quilt packs to about half the size.

Only had mine for 3 months, but very confident it will be fine down to zero and you'll get 3 seasons plus out of it and with it being a quilt if it gets too warm you can always open it up.

The one thing i will say about the Cumulus Quilts is they dont seem to be overly long. I'm only 5'6 and i do like to snuggle down low into the quilt, but theres not much spare at the foot end. If you're a giant you may want to check first.

Think of a quilt like a sleepingbag without a back rather than the duvet you have at home



Because it has the back missing you get a benefit in packsize and value. In sleeping bags that missing area is ineffective as it gets squashed, so you're not really loosing out on anything. Ok you loose out on the hood, but nothing a hat doesnt solve.

Also you can attach it to your mat which helps me as a side sleeper, and for anyone else whos a wriggler.

I don't sleep well in a fully zipped up sleeping bag with my arms trapped inside and a bit restricted as I like to stretch out.
So with elastic under the matress holding it down but not clamping it tight I had much more freedom while at the same time the quilt stayed on the matress and didn't slide off like I sometimes do in a sleeping bag.

Year old superbag at the mo though,can do arms free and legs free if you want,

My 350 fits in an 4 litre Alpkit airloc, so the 250 should go smaller'
