Is there some kind of app for an Android phone that would ideally allow me to simply whack a button and transmit my current location as some kind of Google Maps link via SMS to someone? Basically my Mrs is convinced I'm going to end up bleeding in a ditch, so my options to calm her nerves are phoning in every now and again, or an app that could do something like the above. I think the Pro version of Strava would allow someone to track my progress but I'm thinking more of a one off ping, here I am kinda thing.

Just remember that you'll need at least a phone signal to get this to work. SPOT has the advantage that it doesn't rely on those networks.

I used Endomondo to live track my missus and my nephew at an event once. Worked pretty well.
As stated though, relies on having a signal.
