In attempt to not get trenchfoot next week I have bought Tom and I some knee length sealskinz socks.

From a pair of washing up gloves I've made a gaiter to go over the top of his which should make them fully waterproof.

I'm struggling to find anything to cannabalise round the house to do likewise for my larger calves.

Any ideas?

Old waterproof trousers?

Gaffer tape.

Seriously, your feet will get wet. There is too much water for them to stay dry, and all I think you can do is manage the water. Dry socks at night helps dry the skin and avoid issues, but get resigned to wet feet during the day.

SPD Waders?

Somebody (on here?) suggested talc for your feet at night. Sounded like a good idea to me to keep things dry.

As Steve says - and you'll know from experience - the amount of water up there makes it difficult to keep feet dry. Even in seal skins, your feet will get damp I'd have thought?

We've got merino socks for bed time, and a spare pair to wear if the plan A doesn't work.

I think that was htrider, using shimano winter boots as well, but I can't recall how far he got.

Yup sealskins and goretex boots combined with over trousers and gaitors - 14 hours in the rain and feet dry and toasty but I only made it to Oykl Bridge....
For dodgy river crossings I remove my socks and insoles, plodge across in the boots, squeeze water out of boots and then your feet stay dry in the sealskins. Not really any good for those in a hurry but I value warm, dry tootsies and looking at the state of some folks feet last year its time well spent for me.
