User error

A smack with a soft hammer on the drive side and removing the 'extra' spacer did the trick :-bd

I like the utilitarian design aesthetic - understated and classic.

Does it jump as far as your old one though?

Nope, the Scandal was quite jumpy, this one seems to stick to the ground more, maybe a 29er thing?

Just a thought, I wouldn't clamp it to the frame (on the bike stand), go with the seatpost as its cheaper to replace if you do the clamp too much (although probably not an issue with a steel frame)
