Just plot a map on Bikehike and you can transfer it direct to the Garmin. I use it with an Edge 500 with no issues at all.

Use bikehike and wheresthepath

Don't need the OS maps or those websites... BUT it's much easier to plan and picture a route using an OS map, and you should be taking the OS map (or some form of hard copy) with you in case of gps failure

Yeah, IMO Ben's right. It's so much easier to plot a route on paper because you get to see the big picture.

I think £20.76 for 4 maps represents great value. :-bd

Once you've got the route worked out on paper it's only half an hour to transfer it across to bikehike, then a second to convert it to a gpx track and load it.

I haven't bought a map for years. £20 per year gets me a subscription to the OS Getamap service where I have access to the whole of the UK at both 1:50k and 1:25k. I plan all my routes on there or on Garmin Basecamp (which uses the maps in my GPS). I can print off mapping for any area I need at whichever scale I prefer.

I like having the maps.

I like maps in general, they're cool, and having a big collection of OS maps in a bookcase (or somewhere else) is awesomes

Anyone know if the route fits onto a 1:25k that you could custom order? And recommend a source?

From experience, I can't do maps that aren't laminated, especially in Wales, and 4 seems a stretch to packspace and wallet...

The photo in the top of blogpost is 1:50k, so maybe it won't fit on 25k?

Try https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/shop/c ... -maps.html

You wont get all of the GR's on a 1:25, but they should fit on a 1:50

Centre somewhere around Llangurig should get you enough coverage

I think that's a map from 2011 ... so a completely different set of reference points and there's no way of knowing how many of them the maps owner was visiting.

You might fit all the points on a 'centred' 1:50k OS but without trying it there's no way of knowing.

Or be really cheap and don't subscribe and just use the snipping tool or screenshots.

You can also haveca dig around the D of E homepage as there is often a getamap discount code that's public access. :-bd
