From one eye-wateringly expensive fork to another.....the Rockshox RS-1:

John's Lauf is looking good value at half that price

Yeah, crazy, and, just to ruin it further, it uses a proprietary hub. It does looks nice though.

Nope ... sold my single crown Shivers years ago
And besides, these obviously effect the bike quite badly if you end up having to ride like this.

Makes a Cannondale Lefty look good value; a fork I both love & hate. When it works it's great, but it does take a bit of looking after and don't get it wet! I think one of the early TD winners used a Lefty.

Matt Lee used a lefty at least twice as far as I'm aware. The one use used when they filmed ride the divide broke and he had to get a new part shipped in part way through.

I think he got a whole new fork shipped in. Must be a ballache to service.

When my Lefty required mending it came back from the UK importers with a completely new fault! Fortunately TF Tuned did a cracking job fixing the problem in the damping circuit and charged it direct to the the Euro importers under warranty. Basic maintenance is straightforward - re-setting the travel/bearing alignment and lubing the bearing races - but I still give it to TFT every year or so for a proper service. The rubber boot (on older models) was not robust and once water got into the bearings it need sorting immediately...

'Predictive steering' FFS.... ie you turn the bars left and go left - What will they think of next. Yet another reason to stick with rigid forks.....

Actually, if you jab the bars left at anything above the speed of a crawl, you'll 'fall' to the right pretty quick - counter steering innit.
