Probably been covered a hundred times already. I want to buy a biv but I want to put the roll matt inside. I use a synmat ul7 reg so would this fit in the normal hunka or just the xl? I only intend to use this with a summer bag as I prefer my tent in harsh weather. Input appreciated Thanks. Oh I'm a short arse at 5'6"

If you want to fit the mat inside you'll need the xl

What Chew says ... my Synmat UL7 in small flavour won't fit inside a standard Hunka but the XL swallows it with plenty of room to spare.

I'm 6'3, the only bag that my large Neoair fits in is the long wide borah bivy

One of my mates has trouble with a normal Neoair and an XL hunka, he's probably just under 6 foot, average build

I'm 6'3 and have a Hunka XL. With a standard 183cm Neo Air inside the bivi I still have loads of room. I'm a skinny fell though..

Out of curiosity if you're using the narrower counterparts such as the hunka regular or the other one I've got my eye on is ti goat kestrel do you protect your matt underneath? is waterproofing an issue or mould growth. I really want to use the synmat ul7 due to its pack size and weight.

If I'm using a bag that a mat won't fit inside (Ti-Goat usually) I generally use a very light groundsheet if the ground's wet / dirty, etc. A bit of polythene will do the trick.

You can get some really tough but still light plastic called polycro. It is the stuff that you get in those 'homemade double glazing kits' it'll be available from most DIY supermarket type places. Or various lightweight kit purveyors

It's clear and a bit crinkly but dore the job well.

I use a tyvek groundsheet under my Borah Gear bivi even though I happily get my bag and mat inside it. I just like the additional puncture protection.

I use polycro under mine. Weighs naff all and is really tough. Got some off ebay.
