A Waist Pack for Touring - UD Kaviti

I've just been sent a sample of this Ultimate Direction Kaviti. Unless I'm on a relatively short commute, I don't like to have anything on my back, but I reckon this 'fanny pack' style bag might be pretty good for some extra storage / accessible bottles.

I'll be testing it out over the coming weeks anyway.
Is there anything similar to this in the UK or has anyone tried / owns this style of bag before for touring?

Lots of similar things out there. I've been using an OMM one for the last 4 years and had a LifeVenture one before that. Plenty of folk using Montane Batpacks with good results.
Mountainsmith from the US make some nice ones including some quite large capacity versions that have the option of adding shoulder straps.

Funny that fanny packs/bum bags are making such a comeback. I've been using an ancient Karrimor one for years.
I quite fancy the Ortlieb one though - and it comes in Lime Green!!!!!

I was looking at a photo taken of me when I was touring back in the early 90's with a bum bag with water bottle holders and thought I should look into those again.
Funny how everything old is new again.

mPolo uses a Lowe Alpine fanny pack (one compartment - huge capacity) and I use a smaller bag by Trespass that used to have one bottle but I don't use the bottle.
Dan's Lowe Alpine (cost about 18 pounds)
My Trespass (cost about 12 pounds)

I've used a North Face one that I got off of STW for a tenner. Takes two bottles and a fair amount of carry space and straps for other stuff to be lashed on. Rode BB200 the other year with it. I like to leave it a little use and have not found many issues, far better than a rucksack

I use a non bottle carrying pack, an OMM Waist Pouch 3l. Surprised by how much it can take, comfy to wear and no weight on my back.
Useful for little bits and pieces. I suppose if I tried really hard I could get this weight onto the bike, but don't mind carrying it

Montane Batpack for me. I use the bottle holders to carry inner tubes, apples or banana's.

For me it hides the pockets on my cycling jersey.
This could well be a positive if your top doesnt have rear pockets

More research needed ... as I need to replace my rucksac and prefer riding without if I can get away without one

Been using a Montane batpack since last years WRT and I love it. it has totally changed how I carry stuff when bikepacking. I don't use the bottle holders though and put my bladder in the frame bag now.
I was thinking about writing up my long term review quite soon. I'll post a link when I do.
Here is a pic of johnnystorm and myself with matching his and his. This was the first time I used it and last time I used the bottle holders.

My only reservation with wearing this is that it will affect my tan lines when I'm riding through Spain

+1 on the Batpack6. Drink holders comfortably carry 2 bottles of Leffe (as evidenced on the Winter bivvy). Good for bulky items that don't fit in my fuel tank or feed bag or items that I don't want to have to faff with the saddle bag to get at.

Ooh they're not cheap. Look ideal but a bit spendy.

I use one of the larger OMM ones as mentioned toward the top of the post (pay attention

) ... yes, they work very well and although light, seem to hold up to the elements and general abuse very well.

I struggle without pictures.

That's the one I use from time to time. It's pretty good, but can get covered in crap quite easily unless you also deploy some sort of rear guard. It's not waterproof (unlike that ortlieb one). Handy though on long day rides (e.g. BB200*) for eating food out of, or stashing spare layers into while on the move, something which a camelbak isn't so good for.

Another + for the OMM one, it holds a surprising amount - I usually put things like first aid kit in it. And it's designed to hook up to the OMM Last Drop pack, so ups capacity on that as a 'unit' (but obviously negates the pack free point!)

I use the 3 litre OMM one daily (well cycle commuting days), very pleased with it, although the straps slipping would be my only negative. Very lightweight, swallows my sandwiches and a few other things. And on the way home, it fits nicely in my jersey pocket on the way home.

I have a Camelback one with a bladder. It's pretty good but relatively small capacity, especially with a full 2l bladder. Are those Montane ones still going cheap anywhere?

The montane is currently half price at Blacks, 40 down to 20 quid. I ordered one today online for store pick up in a few days.

I'm using the Trespass one. Can fit a lot of stuff, but it's good only for road riding as it bounces a lot going off road.

It was the montane 'batpack' that I got from blacks at the weekend...however I've just looked on their site and can't find it anywhere so I guess it's sold out. Sorry!

It's worth asking in store as they don't have one central stock system.
