Ive got a problem with my seatpack interfering with my rear light and wondering what other people do

I have a Exposure red eye (on a long cable powered from the handle bar light) No batteries needed and it works well, but when i use a seatpack the pack comes down too low and gets in the way. It would be good to put it on the end of the seatpack but the cable isn't long enough for that

Anyone else have this problem? or am I just special (like my mum always tells me)
Is there an easier and neater way to do this?

I did have a little cheap clip that I put on my rucksack but lost it, fell off somewhere and now trying to not cycle with anything on my back.
Maybe thinking if I had a new helmet light, I could use it up top instead of lower down?

I do have this problem on my road bike as the larger frame means less seat post, but on my mountain bike there is just enough to squeeze the light under the seat pack. I'd be interested in this as I have the same light set up as you and no solutions...

The exposure light & mount is excellent, so long as you want to put it on a seatpost. A seat stay would probably be too small and/or send the light skyward.

There must be some sort of plastic spacer to increase the size. Or would the light simply point skywards anyway?

I put mine (use an exposure flare for bikepacking trips) on the back of my tiger. Can normally make the angle work. I just use some o-rings, although having lost one once, I'm going to be using cable ties in future

I've been using one of these, lasts for ages and is only a couple of quid, clips onto any strap. Not sure I'd want to risk a £30 light!

The body can be rotated on the strap and I am hoping to be able to use it on the seatstay .......... should be with me tomorrow and we will see.

I put mine on a seatstay. If you "flip" the bracket so that the wire exits downwards then back up under the bracket itself, the angle is much improved.

There's even a cutaway in the bracket to facilitate this.

I bought a new rear light too get around this problem, not the cheapest solution but I couldn't figure it out with that particular light

It wouldn't work for the cable redeye, but if you have QR rear end, then a KCNC mount like the one below is good for mounting a light.
I tend to use it as the secondary light, with an extra one on the seatpost.

I'm going to have a tinker with flipping it over like Colin has. Will report back in a bit

If you have a friend who is an electrician it would take them a minute or two to cut, splice and tape an extention.

But your warranty would be invalidated.

Thinking about it I remember someone (but not who!) had sourced some female cable connectors that worked with the exposure connectors. If you could find them it would be easy to make up an extension lead.

Would also mean no mods to the light or cable too

I'm on the case with connectors for something else so good shout

Update....... flipping it over to use on the seat stay didn't work :(
couldn't see a way to mount it securely (stay much thinner than a seatpost) and couldn't get the right angle for the lamp

Going to try the extension idea next when the bits arrive

While riding today, I pondered if you could combine one of those salsa seat clamps that have integrated rack mounts with the KCNC QR mount. Not measured the thread size of the QR, but might be similar enough or adaptable in some way?

Could always just thread a piece of steel bar with 2 different threads, assuming of course they aren't already the same

Actually good point, even if the thread sizes are different, that's nothing a drill and/or a nut on the end couldn't solve.

Hmmm. Last night I found about a 100mm of a carbon seat post I cut down a while back.

Thinking I may be able to fashion a bar end type arrangement the fits on the existing seatpost at sticks out vertically to the right.

Will have a ponder about how that would work. Would still need the extension cord to make it work...
