Happened to be in go outdoors the other day and saw a Coyote Fatman fatbike so on getting home I checked it out on the net. It's weight, and I quote " weighing in at a svelte 22 kg". , that's 48.5 lbs in real money! Hi tensile steel frame and fork to blame I would say. What do proper fat bikes weigh?

That's a bike for an 8-10yo.

My Mukluk is about 31lbs.

A mate's Chinese carbon framed and rimmed fat bike is around 23lbs.

Anything over 35lb's should be avoided

My original medium 1x10 On One Fatty was 34lbs iirc.

My mukluk is about 35lbs, but it's now sporting a rear rack and is finished with the basic nate tyres (1.8kilo each)

Does 650B+ count as fat?

My 9:ZERO:7 comes in at almost exactly 30lbs. Alloy frame, carbon fork, drilled 82mm rims, 4" tyres and 2x9 gearing.

ICT is just shy of 36 with Bud and Lou. Only a problem when you have to carry it. Once the Schwalbe jumbo jims go on it it'll be around 34 and a bit. Lightweight bikes are over rated

Indeed. My personal record for the Gap ascent in the Beacons was done on the Puffin. What you might gain in weight you gain more in terms of traction, and that makes all the difference.

Never bothered weighing mine. Its a fat bike so its got a 'bit more' to it than the other bikes. As its heavier it'll give you a better training ride than riding a 23lb carbon race bike.

2015 Trek Farley 6, medium frame, 14.4 kg.

Haven't got a clue what mine weighs, but if you're still up for riding to Inners next weekend you're welcome to have a shot. Unless I can be bothered to convert it to tubeless this week, it'll be stock spec which I think is low 30s.

Just weighed mine: 28.2lbs

Quite happy with that

It's pretty obvious really but there's a lot of weight in tyres and tubes and you can easily knock 3-4lbs off by making the right choices.

What ratio are you thinking of for SS?

With that set up I could get mine down to nearly 25lb, which for a steel frame isn't bad at all.

Having just finished putting together my new On-One Fatty I've popped it on the scales:

Large Standard OOF spec but with carbon forks and Superstar El Plastique pedals weighs in at 33lbs. My previous 1x10 custom build was 34lbs

So the carbon forks more than compensate for the 20 speed X5, wider bars and larger frame size (Vs 1x10 XT w. Husselfelt Howitzer cranks and BB7s)


So Jumbo Jims would save a pound off each wheel, Schwalbe Freeride tubes another 1/2 pound each end probably (it already came with 2.5-2.7 tubes, not 4.0 tubes). Carbon bars and silicone grips would probably be good for another half a pound too.....

I had ideas about drilling my rims but I'm not it's worth the hassle!

Not sure yet, need to do some maths! I'm looking at getting a gear that will allow me to pedal at 80-90rpm at a speed of 8-10km/h (although if I manage 10km/h, assuming no stops would give me a record finishing time, so probably a bit too ambitious!).

Going to get the jumbo Jim's in and then see which has the deeper tread for the snow over my nates (jumbo Jim's will be my summer tyre)

Has anyone seen/is using, an exotic carbon fork on their fat bike? That would likely drop a chunk of weight and i think they look better than the on one carbon fork as well
