I should have been gong to Wales this weekend coming for a bivi with stu but unfortunately I can't have the car for the weekend and there are no trains back on Sunday due to rail works.

I thought I might ride over to Church Stretton and bivi on the Long Mynd or at Stiperstones for the night then ride back Sunday. I could do this but I'm just hunting round for some other ideas and I'm lacking inspiration.

I'm based in south Birmingham and just wondered if anyone has any ideas for some where I could ride to and bivi? Preferably not involving any trains, doesn't even need to be loads of off road... if any I guess, I would just like some where I haven't been before.

Canal to Droitwich or Worcester.
Back lanes to Stourport.
Off road to Bewdley and the Wyre Forest.
On to Clee Hill, Wenlock Edge and beyond.

Do you have any routes over and around Clee Hill? That is looking like a good option at the moment.

Hire car, continue with original idea

Also, as a hire car is the fastest car, you'll have plenty of time too

Not cost effective. The petrol alone is more than the train. Not so bad if driving your own car and having the convenience but adding the hire costs in as well make it more than I wanted to spend on this trip.

I'd hit the canals to somewhere i'd not been before.

May not be suitable for this trip but what about a coach? I'm a fan of the London-Aviemore overnight coach. Horrible journey but £45 return and you get good daylight hours.

Early coach from Brum could see you somewhere new....

Just find a route from home sounds easiest - pick a direction you've not been before - plenty of scope
How about a one way train ticket? and cycle back??

Lots of nice pitches on the Brown Clee Neil in the region of SO 595 847 with good water from the Five Springs at SO 595 852

I'm assuming you've got an OS map and can find your way to the canal through Kidderminster.
I'm also assuming you have no objection to cycling on footpaths.
I can think of lots of variations of route. This is reasonably direct, while still including a fair bit of off road and avoiding main roads.

Get on Sustrans 45 near Stourport, 818 720
Follow it to Blackstone, 796 743
Go through the picnic area car park and follow the path alongside the main road to the river.
Turn right and follow the river to Bewdley.
Cross the river in Bewdley.
Follow the river bank path to Arley.
A couple of points of interest on the way are the pipeline bridge at 775 782 carrying the water from the Elan Valley to Birmingham and Victoria Bridge at 767 793 on the Severn Valley Railway.
Aim for Coppice Gate at 736 801. There's no obvious route through the forest. either take whichever fork looks like it's heading the right direction, or just go round the road.
Farm track to Birch Farm.
Bridleway across fields (poorly defined on the ground) to Kinlet.
School driveway towards Birchen Park.
At 712 804, take the stone track to the left of the farm house. The bridleway is planted over, everyone uses this track.
Find your way along the lanes to Silvington Common, 633 796
Byway to Cleeton St Mary
The bridleway that goes directly from Cleeton to Dhustone will be waterlogged.
The best rideable route to Titterstone Clee summit is to use either bridleway from Catherton, 623 778 or 625 775 to Clee Hill village.
Bridleway to Dhustone, then follow the road to the summit.
Poorly defined footpath heading North to Callow Gate, 596 793.
Bridleway to Bromdon then turn left on to the road.
Bridleway from 596 815 to 591 828. There's a short push at the end up a few steep steps where it meets the road.
Estate road from 607 836.
If you want a direct route straight up, turn left at 607 839, otherwise left at 613 861 for a longer easier climb with a switchback at 606 867.
Either way, head for Five Springs, 597 853, then follow the bridleway and footpath to the summit.
The best descent from Brown Clee is the bridleway from Five Springs to Cockshutford.
