They haven't always been this size have they? I'm sure they were much smaller once upon a time ... this measures 60mm x 70mm x 40mm

Mine is that size. I got that one as its the only one that will provide a smooth enough current to charge iPhone.
Pete has the smaller one which works with Garmins

I like the price. But I don't like the limitation of lights or USB but not both. Nor the hassle of mounting it or unplugging it all the time.
I have a Plug II it delivers some charge (just ordering the upgrade to a II+ to improve it). Yet I have my rear light (a B&M Toplight Line Plus) on the whole time and my eDelux front light on auto. That means I never (in 2 years) need to switch on lights, rear on all the time and front whenever it starts getting dark.
Plus I don't have to unplug the Plug it or sort out somewhere to fix it. It is fastened on using an Atomic 22 Infiniti3D bolt so can't be stolen.

I use my dynamo wheel on more than one bike

Ah, that's a very good reason not to use The Plug. So far my bikes are too varied. My Bullitt cargobike dynamo is a 20" wheel. My 700C Stoater wheel is a much too wide a rim for my Road bike to use. Plus both bikes with the dynamo are created to be always ready for use as regular transport so swapping wheels would be incompatible with that.

The upgrade to plug 2+ makes a huge difference to charging speed esp. When cycle touring etc. starts at about 8mph but turns itself off at about 28mph
