Road touring and bivi-biking approach mixed, made for a really great ride.

Success - rode a decent amount of miles in 4 full days and a morning without feeling like I was racing or pacing. Got down into the Alsace region for some nice big descents. Strayed off the roads onto some classic pave in N France and onto random tracks in the Vosges. Rode till 11-1am on dyno lights and kept phone, mp3, micro-lights and GPS charged all the way. Rode through some filthy weather over the last 24hrs and stayed on the safe side of it all with just my bivi and some good clothing (inc a primaloft Montane Prism vest - my new essential bit of kit for future trips). Didn't resort to B+Bs.

Fail - didn't get my DIY charging box working reliably in time (so took a K-Lite adapted Kemo box loaned by Paul E, cheers Paul). UST-d some very light randonneur tyres that worked fine at home then leaked at the sidewalls after a battering on the pave. Either I took too much meths or I didn't drink enough stove-brewed coffee.
