I have been looking forward to Stu's review of the Stooge ever since he put it together, checking the "reviews and ramblings" section on an almost daily basis. Then today, there it is! But alas no, it's just an intro. Stu, you are a tease

. Still, at least I know a full ride review is imminent. I will just have to be patient for a little longer.

Nearly finished it Ray ... couple of days at most.

He's scratching his head trying to think of a new way off saying "laterally stiff, but vertically compliant".

Well that passed quick. Anyhow, now I want one. Not sure when I will have the money to buy one but it will be a lot sooner than the Shand I was dreaming of

Great write up. Thanks.
I'd have been very interested if I hadn't just bought my Solaris. Especially the rigid part, as firstly that was what I started out on like so many, plus I'm still not overly convinced by the x fusion forks on mine.

Anyone bike packed on one yet? How big a frame bag will it take? If it will only take a small frame bag and given the standover height would it be feasible to add a small bag on top of the top tube and butting up against the seat tube/seat post?

The triangle is surprisingly big, certainly big enough for a worthwhile frame bag.

Well written, informative and entertaining. Thanks for sharing.
Any idea how it would compare to a 29erd Krampus?

Pity the Purple is limited, looks interesting but don't think I can afford to get one for a while.
Also Stu I don't understand what would be changed by moving the bottom bracket round. Can you explain more?

My thinking was that dropping the BB would drop my weight / CoG. This wouldn't make any real difference climbing seated but when stood on technical climbs, it might ... very difficult to say whether it did or whether it was just in my head but there was certainly a difference afterwards.

Not really but I believe the geo' of both bikes is noticeably different ... Burty has one of each I recall.

Stu, maybe you just needed more time on the bike to get used to the new geometry.

It's possible Ray ... I'll give it a few weeks then change it back and see what happens (if anything).

I'm running mine SS with the BB as far back as it will go while tensioning the chain (ie pretty much all the way) and I find it climbs easily as well as my Inbred used to. Different kettle of fish on the downs, though.
