http://www.strava.com/segments/7580802 x 38 = 8930m & 163km.

It's a nice climb, but I reckon I'd get bored dong it that many times :???:

I suppose I could fit some gears to give me something to do on the way up

Edit: damnit, they have a leaderboard and everything http://www.everesting.cc/hall-of-fame/

I spent a few hours last night looking at various options round here.

45 reps of this http://www.strava.com/segments/2225775 is my current favourite.

Not sure yet about the weather this weekend though.

Did a very quick calculation of what I could bring to mind as the highest climb round here and its roughly 80 repeats. Some how I doubt I'm going to be having a go at that one.

Local Road Climbs
Snake pass would have it done in 27 ascents and 151km
http://www.strava.com/segments/1299891

Holme moss in 26 hits and 122km
http://www.strava.com/segments/635214

Closer to rich
sheffield road... 42 ascents and 46km
http://www.strava.com/segments/1569261

or a trip to cumbria to tackle the infamous great dun fell would see it done in 14 climbs and 108km

Can you use a Sherpa to carry your stuff?

I can't help but think what an utterly pointless exercise this is.

I'm with Stu on this, multiple laps at a 24hr race seems like a sensible and varied proposal in comparison. That or I'm just sour that I'd have to do 5000 repeats of anything around here.

Dave, I'm not sure if one would be lucky enough not to get hit by a car on there doing 27 reps.

I shall park my car at the bottom with my supplies.

'cause it's there.

I've just found this one, Chew Rd. Closed to traffic. A mere 33 reps. http://www.strava.com/segments/5902309 :-bd

Have to admit I did this the other weekend, someone mentioned it as silly cycling adventure to do about 3 months ago, interested but forgot about it. then about a month or so ago someone mentioned again and feeling a little behind my mates on the silly cycling challenges this summer I decided I'd give it a crack (2 good buds were doing the Haute route Pyrenean and another riding / supporting a group ride from London to Paris for end of the TdF.

anyway did a few practice runs of approx 2000m ascent to see if could possibly be done with my (lack of) fitness in under 24hrs. bought a gomadic garmin battery extender, picked a day and hill (conor pass) and hoped everything would go to (very sketchy) plan. i also thought it would be a good test of 24hr (or so) stamina for the BB200 in October...

if taken purely as 24 reps of a single climb it sounds terminally mind numbing... but with worries about weather, wind direction, cloud and visibility (west Kerry has notoriously variable conditions), and late night test pilots rallying up that hill (circumstances meant I had to start on a sat night) as well as the obvious ones about fitness, injury, kit nutrition etc it suddenly becomes a lot more interesting.

Getting up for a cycle at 11pm in itself was unusual and starting at just before 1am was admittedly a daunting task solo. Thankfully I had distractions like garmin malfunctions, an unfortunate dead rabbit, a great descent, a good buddy who joined me for rep 13-18 and lot of phone chatter including endless debate as to whether I needed 22.25 or 24 x reps to make sure of the altitude gain it all became a great adventure.

Strongly recommended unless of course you're completely confident in your ability to do 200 miles / 9000m ascent in one go in which case it'll be just a long long boring repetitive training session.

Seconded. Have you got a link to the ride at all?

cheers!!
the link is here (hope this works) http://www.everesting.cc/hall-of-fame/ i'm down towards the end of the list (3rd most recent according to the current list)

the direct link to the strava file is here http://www.strava.com/activities/172539256. it's a bit basic i'd say as there were originally 3 x files due to me not being garmin literate and nearly losing all data on lap 5... so Andy Van Bergen accepted the 3 x original unedited strava uploads and I then tidied them into one, deleted the old ones and created a new single file....

I can't help but agreeing, what exactly is the point apart from boring yourself to death?

Just realised in my above post, I've neglected to count the distance back to the bottom again. So, it isn't 163km but 326km
I'm glad I've realised this now...

Just over 10 times up and down Snowdon up Llanberis, but that's a bastard to get a clear ride... Don't think I have the fitness to manage that....

As soon as I saw this thread I thought of Great Dun Fell.
I may nip up and ride it once to see about a multi ride another day

Went for a look up Chew tonight with my boy.

The climb is OK, but there are a gazillion drainage ditches to negotiate on the way back down.

I wondered why the descent times were so slow. :d

If the weather is shoddy I may consider it at the weekend, if the weather is good, like tonight it'll be swarming with walkers.

Is that going up to Chew reservoir?
8850 m climb on that thing?
...

God that must be boring.
And tough.

Yeah, just hop'em

once pulled a lamb out of misery in a bog hole just left of the small quarry - keep your ears open, you might hear another one asking for help

Was intrigued by the title .. but no, no thanks at all : ) Respect of sorts, alongside bemusement : ) Wherever you find a motivation though, it's all good.
